Street defeated reliever Manny Corpas, in part due to Corpas' 2 mph drop in velocity this spring. Corpas is working out a mechanical glitch in hopes of alleviating the velocity loss.
Street wasn't the favorite for the closer role initially. He has failed to live up to expectations: In his career he has 94 saves and 27 blown saves, which is a lackluster success rate. Street left a pitchers' park in Oakland, where he had a 3.73 ERA last season, to pitch in a hitters' paradise in Colorado.
Street probably won't have a short leash, but because he has someone behind him, it's unadvisable to draft him no earlier than the mid-teen rounds. Don't let that discourage you; he's not without value as a low-end No. 2 fantasy reliever. Corpas' draft value plummets to the final rounds, which may make him a value on draft day. In most formats, if he is released from a fantasy team, and you have an extra space, stash him on your bench.
