Florida Marlins CL Kevin Gregg to miss a few days

The Associated Press reports Florida Marlins closer Kevin Gregg (knee) will miss a few days due to inflammation in his left knee. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he will use reliever Matt Lindstrom or reliever Joe Nelson in save situations.

In August Gregg has struggled to the tune of a 10.13 ERA and 1.78 WHIP and has blown three saves. With the Marlins seven games out in the National League East, it's possible that the team will opt to shut Gregg down if the injury is determined to be serious, but that doesn't look to be case initially.

The team has touted Lindstrom as the closer of the future, and with a 97 mph fastball, he could be a good one. He has a 3.50 ERA and 1.58 WHIP on the season, and his strikeout rate is down from 8.33 K's per nine innings in 2007 to 7.19 K's per nine innings this season.

Nelson has had an awesome year with a 1.86 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP and 45 strikeouts in 38 innings. He's 33, though, so the Marlins may choose to see what Lindstrom can do in save situations.

If you're desperate for saves, pick up Lindstrom or Nelson in any format. Nelson is more apt to help you with your ratios, but as mentioned, the Marlins may want to give Lindstrom a test run sooner rather than later. Injuries to closers are always cause for concern, and while this is likely only an extremely short-term problem, nothing is a given. Hold on to Gregg to see how this thing plays out.
