Texas Rangers reliever Francisco Cordero has been replaced as the team's closer by Akinori Otsuka. Cordero, who has blown five of his eight save chances, has struggled all season after battling inflammation in his pitching shoulder all spring.
Cordero is 3-2 with three saves and sports a gaudy 11.70 ERA. He's allowed 14 hits and 13 earned runs in just 10 innings with four walks and nine strikeouts.
Otsuka has handled his transition from baseball's best park for pitchers (PETCO Park in San Diego) to one of the worst for pitchers in Ameriquest Field. He's allowed 10 hits in 10 innings with a 2.70 ERA and no walks while striking out 11 in his first season with the Rangers.
Closers are very scarce (obviously because there are only 30 of them to go around) in fantasy baseball. So you should grab Otsuka immediately if it's not too late. However, do not drop Cordero, because we firmly believe he'll be back into the closer role once he gets his issues worked out.
