Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - AL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Corner infielders

Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati Reds 3B Scott Rolen
Don't overlook reliable depth

Maybe he's uninspiring, but the 35-year-old Rolen can still get it done with the bat ... most of the time. He has started with a .318-3-4 line in his first 22 at-bats. His average (.284 career) should keep his value stable even as the power stroke slows down. The vet still posts high contact rates and batting eye ratios and can serve as a handy occasional corner infielder or utility spot holder in deep setups.

Deep mixed: Acquire

NL-only: Acquire

Middle infielders

Juan Castro, SS, Philadelphia Phillies

Jimmy Rollins (calf) strained his calf yesterday and could be headed for the DL. If that happens, Castro would likely be his replacement.

The soft-hitting 37-year-old infielder won't contribute much. He's a career .230 hitter that has little power or speed. About his only benefit would come from regular at-bats.

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Pass

NL-only: Watch

Pitchers

Joel Hanrahan, RP, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates activated Hanrahan (elbow) from the 15-day disabled list Monday. He should slot into a setup role behind oft-injured closer Octavio Dotel.

He's likely the next in line should an injury derail Dotel. Hanrahan was bumpy as a closer for the Washington Nationals, but the Buccos helped fix him last year after they traded for him: Hanrahan tallied a 1.72 ERA with a 10.63 dominance rate in Pittsburgh. His great career K/9 (9.43) gives him added NL-only value.

Deep mixed: Watch
