Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - AL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore?'s Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Corner infielders

Gaby Sanchez, 1B, Florida Marlins

Florida Marlins 1B Gaby Sanchez
Roster Sanchez

Time to consider adding Sanchez if you need corner infield help. In his last 21 games, he's 34-for-85 (.400) with four dingers and 16 ribbies as he has finally found a groove in the two-hole. Surprise: He's one of the top offensive rookies. He's holding off Logan Morrison's arrival for now.

Sanchez makes ample contact, containing his K's, and has increased his walk rate. He probably has been a bit lucky making contact on pitches outside the zone, but he was a useful on-base and contact commodity in the minors, too. He's lifting the ball more, though, so the power uptick has a foundation, and that increase combined with his steady BA potential shouldn't be left on your wire.

Joe Blanton, SP, Philadelphia Phillies

Don't look now (and try not to look at his 6.19 ERA too long), but Blanton has put together a string of three quality starts: 3-0, 3.80 ERA with 11 K's in 21 frames.

K's? OK, it's hard to promise he'll record much of those. His K/9 from last year looks like an anomaly, and he still gives up ample homers. There's still risk here without much upside.

However, he altered his mechanics to find the right angle on his sinker, which had been sitting high in the zone often. He's aggressive and has above-average control. Maybe his delivery change could help him keep the ball down more. If you're longing merely for something productive on a deep staff, Blanton won't wow, but he could stop some bleeding.
