Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - AL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market give you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Outfielders

Xavier Nady, Chicago Cubs

More PT could be coming Nady's way

Cubs manager Lou Piniella reiterated his desire to give Nady more PT. They were being cautious with Nady, who had Tommy John surgery last season. Nady is a dependable 20-homer threat in a full season (hit 45 combined in '07 and '08) and has proven he can mash lefties (despite slacking there in recent years).

The up-and-down Kosuke Fukudome probably will lose out the most with more X-man given his ineptitude versus southpaws. Marlon Byrd is streaky. Alfonso Soriano is 34 and injury-prone. There's no shortage of ways Nady could stick.

Pitchers

Fernando Nieve, P, New York Mets

Nieve is likely to receive New York's start Saturday at the Milwaukee Brewers. The righty has been a relief workhorse this year and has been solid outside of a few blowups. He has decent velocity and has increased his groundball profile, but he hasn't offered significant dominance in long-term duty.

Since he has been used so much and will have to adjust his pitch selection, it's probably best to leave him be for his first start. With John Maine (shoulder) and Jonathon Niese (hamstring) on the DL, though, Nieve might stick if he does well.

P.J. Walters, P, St. Louis Cardinals

Further tests showed Kyle Lohse (elbow) might be done for the year. Walters, initially a fill-in for the DLed Brad Penny (back), could stick with the rotation if he performs well. Don't sell out for him in mono leagues, but he's worth a trial spot.

Sam LeCure, P, Cincinnati Reds

With Homer Bailey (shoulder) on the DL, LeCure reportedly will be called up to start Friday at home against the Houston Astros. The righty has posted a 2.55 ERA with 51 K's and 15 walks in 60 innings at Triple-A Louisville. His time in the bigs is likely fixed to Bailey's recovery. Wait and see if something develops here.
