Middle infieldersFreddy Sanchez, 2B, San Francisco Giants
Sanchez (knee, shoulder) could make his 2010 debut Wednesday if a weekend rehab assignment goes well. He's capable of hitting .300, despite a shaky batting eye, because he makes frequent contact and keeps the ball on the ground. Sanchez is streaky, unexciting and unhelpful with steals. Hold on: When you also consider his acceptable track records in homers and runs scored, he looks more attractive to owners desperate for middle infield help. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Watch NL-only: Acquire PitchersMat Latos, SP, San Diego Padres Of course your league mates will run - or have run - to pick up Latos after he dominated the not-so-intimidating San Francisco Giants Thursday. He allowed a single knock, but Latos isn't a one-hit wonder, a la Chumbawamba. His dominance isn't yet top-notch but will grow. Though he pitches half of his games at PETCO Park, he still forces opponents to the ground(balls). Latos has embraced his slider and has sparkling control potential. He skipped Triple-A but doesn't seem to need more time on the farm. San Diego conserved his arm well in the bigs last season to prime him for a bigger 2010 role. Latos lines up to face the Giants again next week, followed by the Seattle Mariners; sounds like a springboard for shallows. Shallow mixed: Acquire Deep mixed: Acquire NL-only: Acquire Aaron Harang, SP, Cincinnati Reds A more aggressive approach, including a bigger diet of fastballs, has turned around the stocky righty's performance in his last three starts. Giving up homers remains his biggest warning sign, but he's inducing more groundballs. His command also remains sparkling, and his strand rate could be in line for a huge improvement. The 32-year-old has the upside of a No. 3 mixed starter if he can sustain his adjustments. Shallow mixed: Watch Deep mixed: Acquire NL-only: Acquire Jeff Francis, SP, Colorado Rockies A reminder: Francis' return will come Sunday at home against the Washington Nationals. Start him at your own risk there, but don't lose track of him long term. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Watch NL-only: Acquire Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - ALAbout Tim Heaney
