Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Pitchers

Justin Masterson, SP, Cleveland Indians

Cleveland Indians SP Justin Masterson
Augusta has nothing on Masterson

We pegged him as a sleeper during spring training. He's proving us right so far. He fanned nine and gave up only four hits two earned runs in six innings yesterday and has a 2.45 ERA and 1.36 WHIP - along with 14 K's and just two walks - through two starts.

Typically, he had been a better reliever, but after joining the Tribe in the Victor Martinez trade last year, Masterson showed some signs of growth in a starting role. Control is the biggest caveat, but his profile - strong K/9, groundball pitcher - fits well for the long term.

Deep mixed: Acquire

AL-only: Acquire

Kam Mickolio, RP, Baltimore Orioles

The O's called up Mickolio today; he should serve in a setup role to likely interim closer Jim Johnson. Johnson is far from a guarantee to receive every opp with Mike Gonzalez on the DL, leaving the door slightly open for Mickolio to receive a shot.

Mick is viewed by the O's as a closer of the future once he improves his command. Last year it was solid at Triple-A (3.25 K/BB). An adjustment in his delivery resulted in a promising MLB stint last year that was halted by right biceps inflammation. He's an option for those that missed out on Johnson who can help in leagues that encourage utilizing skilled non-closers.
