Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Key

Acquire
Add player (in most circumstances)
Watch
Track player, add if trend continues
Pass
Do not add player (in most circumstances)

Middle infielders

Alex Gonzalez, SS, Toronto Blue Jays

Minnesota Twins SP Carl Pavano
Expand your mind: Pavano has talent

Signed for his defense, Gonzalez has provided a spark offensively with a .333 average, four homers and six runs in his first 306 at-bats. It's hard to keep up that pace, but buying into him, at least in deeper leagues where the cost isn't so much, is a risk worth taking. He hit 16 homers in '07 before a knee injury ruined his 2008, so the pop has been there before.

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Watch

AL-only: Acquire

Pitchers

Carl Pavano, SP, Cleveland Indians

Pavano has turned in two strong starts to open the season; he has allowed only two runs in 13 innings (1.38 ERA). More importantly, his command has been exquisite with just one walk to 10 strikeouts. Pavano pounds the strike zone, keeping his walk total down, and has a solid defense behind him. It's tough to imagine him keeping up a pace even close to this, but a low ERA and WHIP aren't completely foreign to him (2004: 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP). He can round out a deep pitching roster.

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Watch

AL-only: Acquire

As a lifelong Bay Stater & Red Sox fan, Alex Gonzalez is & will be sorely missed. The Gorilla suited one has botched up big time as this addition of the Hose gets Scut'd, Beltre'd & Cam'd. Bay should have been kept as the David issue remained a huge ???????mark.
