Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore?'s Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Middle infielders

Jose Lopez, 2B/3B, Seattle Mariners

Seattle Mariners 2B Jose Lopez
J-Lo not bad with the stick, either

Maybe his switch to third base is getting in the way, but something doesn't add up. The 26-year-old has a .259 BABIP but is making hard contact (20.3 percent line drives). His 37.9 percent flyball rate isn't unusual for his resume. Lopez's batting eye is below average but in line with his career norms.

A slight uptick in aerial hits helped his power grow in 2009; he probably won't reach that again without a torrid second half. Not out of the question, though: Personal problems weighed him down early last year, but he caught fire following the break. In his current eight-game hit streak, he's hitting .400-2-5 in 30 at-bats.

Any upward swing could bring close to 20 homers from an added corner or middle infielder. Check your waiver wire. See if you can still buy low.

Sean Rodriguez, 2B/OF, Tampa Bay Rays

The Spring Training stud might see more frequent time at second base soon. Starting shortstop Jason Bartlett (hamstring) is a DL possibility. Tracing back from Saturday, the day Bartlett was injured, Rodriguez is 5-for-11 with four RBIs.

Bartlett still might return sometime this weekend, but middle infield-starved teams should be more urgent in getting a jump on Rodriguez. The righty bat has posted an awful batting eye but has made good on his platoon status against lefties. He's still capable of reaching 15 homers with frequent playing time, as long as you can deal with his sloppy batting average.

Shallow mixed: Pass

Deep mixed: Watch

AL-only: Acquire

Jason Frasor, RP, Toronto Blue Jays

The news that closer Kevin Gregg will receive a few days off should make save speculators more inclined to grab Frasor. Scott Downs may be a factor, but Frasor is the likelier choice as a replacement, due to his success there last year and return to form in May.
