OutfieldersEric Chavez (neck) hit the DL again. With Chavez's future looking bleak, the scorching Cust has probably cemented his lineup spot. There's ample power to be had here. Shallow mixed: Watch Deep mixed: Acquire AL-only: Acquire Designated hittersTravis Hafner, Cleveland Indians Pronk's last 16 games: .386-2-9 in 57 at-bats, with 10 walks and nine K's, during an 11-game hit streak. He's becoming more selective while remaining in the middle of the order. He isn't hitting many flyballs, but it won't hurt to ride his hot bat until he makes steps to show more power. Even with his negative scouting reports on his bat speed in recent years, he at least has a track record in leaving the yard. Shallow mixed: Watch Deep mixed: Acquire AL-only: Acquire PitchersCla Meredith, RP, Baltimore Orioles
Closer Alfredo Simon (hamstring) is day-to-day with a strained left hamstring and claims he won't be out long. Still, Simon has a history of leg issues, and you have to be prepared for potential saves if you're desperate. The O's could call up either Chris Tillman or Jake Arrieta and throw a dynamic prospect into the fire. Southpaw Will Ohman has been B-more's most consistent reliever this year, but could be used strictly against lefty-heavy slates. Koji Uehara (elbow, forearm) might be hitting the DL soon, meaning the door could open for the 26-year-old Meredith. He throws right-handed, boasts 39 career farm saves, induces ample grounders and has manager Dave Trembley's confidence for late-game work. Either way, you shouldn't expect much here unless Simon misses extended time; the saves picture could easily become a group effort in that case. Shallow mixed: Watch Deep mixed: Watch AL-only: Acquire David Purcey, RP, Toronto Blue Jays The Blue Jays, who carry a flock of rotation options, summoned the talented lefty to pitch in relief. Purcey, 28, showed flashes of solid K/9 in '09 and could be worth a ratio-easing rental if he proves useful in relief or receives a chance to start. He might not be up for long, though, so don't commit. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Pass AL-only: Watch Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NLAbout Tim Heaney
