Catchers
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is channeling his inner Rube Baker while having trouble throwing to the mound in Triple-A Oklahoma City; his defensive woes could keep him down for a while. Taylor Teagarden is at Double-A Frisco. Offense has always been Ramirez's biggest selling point; he drove in 43 runs in 274 Triple-A at-bats last season despite struggles in other categories. In a brief sample, Ramirez is performing well - at the dish and with the pitchers - in a split with Matt Treanor. With more bigs experience, Ramirez could also flash his formerly stellar batting eye and offer well-rounded production. Famished two-catcher owners must give him a look. Any sense of stability means he could stick for a while, even if Salty or Teagarden returns. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Watch AL-only: Acquire OutfieldersMike Cameron, OF, Boston Red Sox The 37-year-old could be activated from the DL Monday. Cameron (abdominal) doesn't have much speed and would be a boon if he stole 10 bases, but he's a steady source of 20 homers in a full season as a deep outfield or utility option. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Acquire AL-only: Acquire Casper Wells, OF, Detroit Tigers The Tigers will reportedly call up the 25-year-old, who can play each outfield spot, and probably give him some at-bats against lefties, at least. Wells' prospect stock has fallen recently, and he had been struggling at Triple-A Toledo. He'll struggle to put up a respectable batting average but has decent power (32 homers at Double-A Erie the last two years, five in 118 at-bats for Toledo). If you're thirsty for potential PT, he's worth a trial, as long as you don't give up a significant commodity for him. Detroit has ample outfield options, and Carlos Guillen (hamstring) should work his way back in the next few weeks. With Detroit's likely need for a starter on Sunday, Wells' MLB stint might be short. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Pass AL-only: Watch PitchersBen Sheets, SP, Oakland Athletics Sheets is talented, duh, but two recent blowups cloud otherwise steady production. A cut fastball he was experimenting with during one of those gaffes has led to a turnaround in his last two outings, with 16 K's and six walks in games against the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers. With a fourth pitch in tow, Sheets can recover more dominance, build on increasing groundball prowess and work toward correcting a 68.7 percent strand rate. Look past his season ERA and WHIP; buy a potential stud. Shallow mixed: Acquire Deep mixed: Acquire AL-only: Acquire Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NLAbout Tim Heaney
