Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - NL

Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league.

Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly.

Corner infielders

Kila Ka'aihue, 1B, Kansas City Royals

The late-blooming power prospect was called up but doesn't have an outlet to play frequently. Billy Butler (first base) and the hot-starting Jose Guillen (designated hitter) are blocking Ka'aihue's best avenues for PT; he'll probably come off the bench and start once or twice a week, at first.

Ka'aihue, 26, excels at reaching base along with producing promising pop. At some point, the rebuilding Royals could try to trade Guillen, who's in a contract year. Managers should be proactive in chugging some Hawaiian Punch in leagues that favor tucking away top offensive prospects. You'll have to be patient, but the potential payoff shouldn't be ignored.

Outfielders

Travis Snider, OF, Toronto Blue Jays

The oft-whiffing but powerful 22-year-old has been a tad unlucky this year: .203 BABIP with a 30.2 line-drive percentage. Another year of increased walk rate and contact percentage also project an improved batting average.

He's making the most of his flyballs (19.0 percent HR/FB), and with more aerial attacks he could explode. If you're looking for a No. 4 or 5 outfielder, few match Snider's promise for the rest of the season.

Mitch Maier, OF, Kansas City Royals

Maier has capably filled in for Rick Ankiel (quadriceps), who's on the DL. Maier will continue to start in Ankiel's stead and try to build on a successful 10-game stretch (.345-0-5).

He boasts a high walk rate and showed 15-homer power in the minors; the 27-year-old had 31 RBIs and scored 42 runs in 341 at-bats last year, but counting on a batting average above maybe .270 is risky. Maier will help as depth, possibly as a No. 5 outfield play in the right setup.
