The Rangers are expected to recall the Triple-A All-Star sometime soon. It's no surprise that Davis is playing in the Pacific Coast League's midsummer showcase. He's posted a .363 batting average, with 19 home runs, 52 RBIs and a stolen base, in just 135 at-bats with Round Rock between big-league stints in which he hit .269 with three homers and four RBIs in 52 at-bats. The left-handed slugger has been playing left field, too, though. Both he and the club believe that the transition is going well. Texas wants to up its production from the outfield (or perhaps showcase Davis and his versatility as the deadline approaches). Josh Hamilton has been playing some center field, which is where he'd remain, with Nelson Cruz in right, if and when the Rangers act on this arrangement. Although Davis' body of MLB work since his rookie season is littered with contact issues and sub-par batting averages, his 2011 log isn't too shabby. The small sample isn't enough to restore your faith, but it's clear that Davis has nothing left to prove on the farm. He believes that he has made serious strides in his ability to drive the ball the other way and back up the middle this year. If Texas - or some other organization - gives him a legitimate opportunity in the second half, he's worth adding to see how much he's right about that.
