Mound meetings

• Jenks won't need a DL stint

  The Oakland Athletics' Andrew Bailey (rib) threw an 18-pitch simulated game Tuesday, and if all goes well in his next one, he'll come back to a big league mound, maybe as soon as this weekend. Bailey's velocity looked like it was back to normal in yesterday's outing, per manager Bob Geren, but the righty has to refine his command. They aren't worried about the latter coming around with more work.

• Bobby Jenks (back) said he's ready to pitch after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, during which he used all of his offerings. The Chicago White Sox's reliever probably will avoid a trip to the disabled list.
  He'll receive treatment for the rest of the week, and he'll probably need some non-save work before manager Ozzie Guillen considers reinstalling him as closer. J.J. Putz, despite his weekend shakiness, probably remains the top option for now, but Matt Thornton, who was blown up last night, might step in if needed.

• The Seattle Mariners deemed David Aardsma unavailable for Tuesday after he threw 36 pitches in a disastrous Monday outing. Brandon League notched four outs to wrap up Tuesday's contest. He recorded the final out in the top of the eighth with a 1-0 lead before the M's ran off a three-run bottom half.
  With Aardsma unavailable, League was probably staying in for the ninth regardless of score. Aardsma said his weak performance Monday was partially due to sweat on his fingers during a humid game in Baltimore. His split-finger fastball was reportedly slipping out of his hand.

• Matt Capps gave up a homer and two others hits Tuesday in blowing the Minnesota Twins' save chance. He has allowed seven hits over his last four outings, but his earned run allowed Tuesday was only his second in 10 frames as a Twin.
  Jon Rauch has allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk in his last three appearances (two innings). He has been demoted in the 'pen pecking order behind Jesse Crain and Matt Guerrier, but speculating behind Capps with these two is fruitless.
