Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat - AL

In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

  • Detroit Tigers RP Jose Valverde
Papa Grande got a brand new bag?
Back-to-back appearances without an earned run bode well for the Detroit Tigers' Jose Valverde. His Wednesday affair lasted four outs as he worked around a walk and an unearned run that resulted from a throwing error by catcher Gerald Laird. As long as he's healthy, the Tigs will go with Valverde for saves.
  • The Texas Rangers' bullpen broke down Wednesday. After Frank Francisco gave up a homer in the eighth, Neftali Feliz blew the save and absorbed the loss in a 21-pitch outing. He allowed the tying run to score on an RBI single and let one of his inherited runners score the difference-making tally.
It was Feliz's second straight day of work. Texas won't turn away from Feliz as they gear up for the playoffs, even if they give him a little rest since Texas is ahead comfortably in the division.
  • Your latest Chicago White Sox closer quotes, with more Ozzie Guillen tough love for the deposed Bobby Jenks: "What I see from him, it was good," Guillen said. "Is it good enough? Not yet. I want to see him one more time to see how he's doing. I want him to grab his job. I want him to be the guy. We all want that. Maybe he's the one who doesn't believe we want him there, but we do want him there."
