POSITION ANALYSIS - OFFENSE

QUARTERBACKS

Quarterback Jeff Garcia (Detroit Lions) agreed to terms with the Eagles on a one-year pact that has a base salary of $710,000. Garcia should back up quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Philadelphia cut quarterback Mike McMahon.

The team also released quarterback Andrew Hall.

The Eagles may be planning to draft a signal-caller that would compete with quarterback Koy Detmer for the No. 3 position on the depth chart.

RUNNING BACKS

No activity to report.

WIDE RECEIVERS/TIGHT ENDS

Free agent wide receiver Jabar Gaffney (Houston Texans) signed a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Eagles. The contract has a base salary of $600,000. Philadelphia hopes to at least use him in three-receiver sets, mostly working out of the slot. He could compete for the No. 2 job.

Wide receiver Darnerian McCants re-signed with Philadelphia. He received a one-year deal with a base salary $585,000.

Philadelphia ended its much maligned relationship with wide receiver Terrell Owens by terminating his contract and making him an unrestricted free agent.

The Eagles released wide receiver Edward Simms.

The Eagles signed free agent tight end Matt Schobel (Cincinnati Bengals) to a five-year deal that included a $1.8 million signing bonus.

POSITION ANALYSIS - DEFENSE

DEFENSIVE LINE

The Eagles inked free agent defensive end Darren Howard (New Orleans Saints) to a six-year contract, which included a $9.5 million signing bonus and $1 million roster bonus. Howard will line up at right defensive end, opposite defensive end Jevon Kearse.

Free agent defensive tackle Edward Jasper (Oakland Raiders) signed a one-year deal with the Eagles that was reportedly worth $750,000 and included a $40,000 signing bonus.

The team re-signed defensive end Juqua Thomas to a one-year contract with a base salary of $585,000.

LINEBACKERS

The Eagles signed free agent linebacker Shawn Barber (Kansas City Chiefs) to a one-year contract with a base salary of $770,000 and a $25,000 signing bonus. He is coming off of two injury-marred seasons but says he's healthy. Barber should be in line for a starting job.

SECONDARY

Restricted free agent cornerback Roderick Hood signed a one-year, $1.573 million tender offer.

SPECIAL TEAMS

No activity to report.
