Who are the latest players on the disabled list that could affect their team's production, which players may be headed to the disabled list soon and which players may be returning to the fold in the coming days or weeks? PRIMETIME PLAYERSAtlanta Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria (ankle) was activated off the 15-day disabled list and returned to the starting lineup Saturday, Sept. 8. Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones (oblique) missed his third consecutive game Wednesday, Sept. 12, but could return by the weekend Baltimore Orioles starter Erik Bedard (oblique) has been shut down for the season after suffering a strained muscle near his right rib cage. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list. Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez (oblique) took batting practice Wednesday, Sept. 12, for the first time since Tuesday, Aug. 28. Boston Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell (illness) was out of the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 12, due to illness and was replaced at third base by first baseman Kevin Youkilis. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz (knee) returned to the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 11, after missing one day with a bad knee. Ortiz will have offseason surgery to fix the knee. Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee (knee) was scratched from the lineup Thursday, Sept. 13, with a sore right knee. He injured the knee Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the fifth inning but managed to finish off the game. Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jeremy Bonderman (elbow) is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a pinched cartilage in the outer part of his elbow. It is not considered to have any serious long-term effects. He will not require surgery on the elbow. Detroit Tigers designated hitter Gary Sheffield (shoulder) has decided not to undergo any offseason shoulder surgery and will instead undergo a rehab program that should get it strong enough to take him through the whole 2008 season. He was activated off the disabled list Thursday, Sept. 6. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Vladimir Guerrero (triceps) returned to the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 11, as a designated hitter. He missed four consecutive games with an inflamed right triceps. Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer (hamstring) played Sunday, Sept. 9, and has played in every game until he was given the day off Wednesday, Sept. 12. New York Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado (hip) could miss the team’s entire homestand and will likely be out at least one more week. New York Yankees starting pitcher Roger Clemens (elbow) has ligament damage in his sore right elbow and internal bleeding in his forearm. He received two cortisone shots last week in Houston. Clemens was able to throw 40 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday, Sept. 13, and he said there is no doubt he will start Sunday, Sept. 16. New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (knee) has been battling knee stiffness and was out of the lineup Sunday, Sept. 9. He returned Tuesday, Sept. 11. Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jason Bay (knee) received an MRI on his knee, which showed no structural damage. There is a chance he could return Friday, Sept. 14. Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels (elbow) will throw a simulated game Saturday, Sept. 15, and if he has no setbacks, he could rejoin the rotation Tuesday, Sept. 18. Seattle Mariners first baseman Richie Sexson (hamstring) has been diagnosed with tendonitis in his left hamstring and will be out for another 10 days. Texas Rangers third baseman Hank Blalock (forearm) is still starting at designated hitter as he is not healthy enough to take the field just yet. Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Troy Glaus (foot) will undergo surgery on his left foot to repair a nerve and will miss the remainder of the season. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells (shoulder) will undergo offseason shoulder surgery to remove a cyst from his left shoulder. He should be fully recovered for the start of the 2008 season. AROUND THE DIAMONDAMERICAN LEAGUE EASTBaltimore Orioles - Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (oblique) feels he is improving enough from his oblique strain and would like to pitch again this season...Starting pitcher Garrett Olson (forearm) should be able to recover from a forearm strain and pitch again before next season, according to manager Dave Trembley. Boston Red Sox - Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury (wrist) did not play Wednesday, Sept. 12, and was replaced by outfielder Brandon Moss...Relief pitcher Eric Gagne (shoulder) was available out of the bullpen Monday, Sept. 10. New York Yankees - Outfielder Shelley Duncan (pelvis) is day-to-day with a bone bruise on his pelvis and a small inguinal hernia...Relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino (back) has been kept out because of a sore back. His arm, however, is good enough for him to return...Relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth (neck) has been unavailable to pitch in the team's last series because of a sore neck. He has not pitched since Sept. 9. Tampa Bay Devil Rays - Outfielder Rocco Baldelli (hamstring) will rejoin the team in Seattle this weekend, but he will not play for the rest of the season. Toronto Blue Jays - Reliever Casey Janssen (leg) left the game Sept. 5 after being struck with a line drive. X-rays showed no serious injury. He is considered day-to-day. AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRALChicago White Sox - Outfielder Jermaine Dye (quadriceps/groin) returned to the lineup Saturday, Sept. 8, and has played in every game since. Cleveland Indians - Outfielder David Dellucci (hamstring) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Sept. 6. However, he has yet to play in a game. Detroit Tigers - Catcher Ivan Rodriguez (dizziness) was bothered by dizziness and left early Monday, Sept. 10. He missed just one game, the morning game of a double-header Tuesday, Sept. 11, and has played since...Relief pitcher Joel Zumaya (fingernail) is considered day-to-day with a pulled back fingernail. He did pitch Wednesday, Sept. 12, and it is not known if it was still bothering him. Kansas City Royals - Starting pitcher Odalis Perez (knee) has been told to continue the rehab work on his left knee at home in the Dominican Republic, bringing his 2007 season to an end...Starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa (forearm) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 11, and will work out of the bullpen for the rest of the season...Relief pitcher Neal Musser (finger) is out for the rest of the season after breaking his right little finger Monday, Sept. 10. Musser injured his finger when he punched a chair in the bullpen after a poor outing. Minnesota Twins - Relief pitcher Dennys Reyes (elbow) will continue to rehab his left elbow without surgery. He will rejoin the team Friday, Sept. 14, although the chances are slim he will pitch again this season...Starting pitcher Carlos Silva (groin) left his start Wednesday, Sept. 13, after two innings with a strained groin. He is considered day-to-day. AMERICAN LEAGUE WESTLos Angeles Angels of Anaheim - Starting pitcher Bartolo Colon (elbow) was activated off the 60-day disabled list and will start Friday, Sept. 14...Outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. (ankle) left in the third inning Tuesday, Sept. 11, with a sprained right ankle. He is not expected to play for the rest of the week...Infielder Maicer Izturis (foot) has been suffering for a sore right foot, which is believed to have been caused by a pair of ill-fitting spikes on his cleats. The team has changed the spikes, which alleviated some of the pain...Catcher Mike Napoli (hamstring) made his first start behind the plate Sunday, Sept. 9, since coming off the disabled list...Third baseman Chone Figgins (wrist) has resumed batting from the right side. He's been hitting left-handed only since Aug. 24, when he sprained his left wrist. Oakland Athletics - Starting pitcher Rich Harden (shoulder) is set to throw a simulated game Thursday, Sept. 13. He will continue to do that every fifth day and manager Bob Geren is hoping he will return sometime this season...Third baseman Eric Chavez (shoulder) underwent surgery on his right shoulder. He is expected to be ready for spring training in 2008. Seattle Mariners - Catcher Kenji Johjima (wrist) sat out Wednesday, Sept. 12, with a bruised left wrist...Relief pitcher Mark Lowe (elbow) has been shut down for the season and could require arthroscopic surgery on his elbow. He will throw again late this month or in early October and if he is still being bothered, he could have surgery. Texas Rangers - Relief pitcher Scott Feldman (knee) had X-rays taken on his knee that showed no structural damage. He is scheduled to have an MRI, which will examine his knee more closely...Relief pitcher Kameron Loe (elbow) remains unavailable due to a sore elbow...Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) was activated off the 15-day disabled list and started Tuesday, Sept. 11. NATIONAL LEAGUE EASTAtlanta Braves - Relief pitcher Octavio Dotel (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Sept. 11, and will throw another bullpen session Friday, Sept. 14. If that goes well, he could come off the disabled list as soon as possible...Outfielder Andruw Jones (illness) returned Tuesday, Sept. 11, after missing the day before with the flu. Florida Marlins - Relief pitcher Armando Benitez (back) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Sept. 12, and could return this weekend...Catcher Matt Treanor (knee) could return to the starting lineup as early as Friday, Sept. 14...Outfielder Cody Ross (hamstring) was not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 12, as precaution after leaving early Tuesday, Sept. 11, with a tight left hamstring. New York Mets - Second baseman Luis Castillo (knee) was given Wednesday, Sept. 12, off due to a sore knee...Starting pitcher Orlando Hernandez (knee) said he felt pain in his knee the morning after making his start Tuesday, Sept. 11...Infielder Damion Easley (ankle) will not need surgery on his severely sprained left ankle. He does have three completely torn ligaments and partially torn two others. Easley does plan to play in 2008. Philadelphia Phillies - Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick (knee) left his start early Wednesday, Sept. 12, after taking a line drive to his right knee. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, Sept. 14, and should be able to make his next scheduled start Sept. 17...Relief pitcher Ryan Madson (shoulder) felt pain when throwing Friday, Sept. 7, and has declared his season all but over...Outfielder Shane Victorino (calf) missed the team's game Wednesday, Sept. 12, because of discomfort in his calf. Washington Nationals - Starting pitcher John Patterson (elbow) will undergo surgery Thursday, Sept. 13, to decompress the radial nerve in his right elbow. NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRALChicago Cubs - Outfielder Daryle Ward (knee) was cleared to start Wednesday, Sept. 12, after he had water drained from his right knee Sept. 10. He started the team's game Thursday, Sept. 13, at first base and went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Cincinnati Reds - Outfielder Josh Hamilton (hamstring) will likely miss the rest of the season after straining his right hamstring...Shortstop Alex Gonzalez (knee) will continue to travel with the team after being diagnosed with a bone bruise on his left knee. Houston Astros - Starting pitcher Troy Patton (biceps) was diagnosed with a biceps tendon injury. He will be monitored closely in the coming days and could be shut down for the season...Starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez (thumb) received treatment for his thumb Saturday, Sept. 8, and did not make his next start Wednesday, Sept. 12...Starting pitcher Chris Sampson (elbow) has been shut down for the rest of 2007 to avoid further damaging his elbow. Milwaukee Brewers - Starting pitcher Claudio Vargas (back) was activated off the 15-day disabled list and will be used in long relief. Pittsburgh Pirates - Outfielder Xavier Nady (concussion) could return to the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 14...Relief pitcher Salomon Torres (elbow) was activated off the 15-day disabled list...Starting pitcher Zach Duke (elbow) was activated off the 15-day disabled list. St. Louis Cardinals - Infielder Scott Spiezio (personal) is ready to rejoin the team, although it is uncertain when he will be ready to play again...Outfielder Chris Duncan (groin) returned to St. Louis Monday, Sept. 10, to have his sore groin examined. He's out for the season with a sports hernia. NATIONAL LEAGUE WESTArizona Diamondbacks - Third baseman Chad Tracy (knee) took batting practice prior to the game Wednesday, Sept. 12...Second baseman Orlando Hudson (thumb) has decided to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. Colorado Rockies - Outfielder Willy Taveras (quadriceps) had an MRI exam on his strained right quadriceps and is not expected to return this season...Pitcher Elmer Dessens (hamstring) has resumed running and exercised, but he continues to feel tightness in his hamstring. He is hoping to throw a bullpen session soon. Los Angeles Dodgers - Starting pitcher Derek Lowe (hand) was scratched from his start Wednesday, Sept. 12, because of a bruised hand. He was able to throw Thursday, Sept. 13, and he will make his next start Saturday, Sept. 15. San Diego Padres - Outfielder Milton Bradley (oblique) will likely miss a few more days to recover from an oblique strain...Second baseman Marcus Giles (knee) was activated from the 15-day disabled list...Outfielder Scott Hairston (oblique) was activated from the 15-day disabled list. San Francisco Giants - Relief pitcher Randy Messenger (hand) was activated off the 15-day disabled list...Relief pitcher Jack Taschner (shoulder) played catch Wednesday, Sept. 12, and could be cleared to play this weekend...Starting pitcher Noah Lowry (elbow) underwent an MRI that revealed just minor inflammation behind his elbow and nothing serious. The team plans on playing it safe with Lowry as they are not in postseason contention...Relief pitcher Vinnie Chulk (fingers) is doubtful to return this season as he is still suffering from discoloration and numbing in his fingers.
