In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brai over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.
Fantasy football busts: Defensive linemen
Adewale Ogunleye, Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Fantasy value: Midrange No. 2
- Ogunleye recorded four tackles in Week 3 and is averaging 3.7 total tackles (3.3 solo) per game over the first three weeks.
- The Eagles are allowing 14.7 total tackles (12 solo) and 0.5 sacks per game to this position over the last three weeks.
- Philly isn't likely to test Chicago's run D that often because the Bears secondary is more susceptible to damage.
Tamba Hali, Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos
Fantasy value: Weak No. 2 or strong No. 3
- The second-year end finished last week's game with three tackles, lowering his average to 4.3 total tackles (three solo) per game this season.
- Opposing linemen are averaging just 15.3 total tackles (11.3 solo) per game to this position this year.
- The Broncos' balanced offense has incorporated more passing, so their running game isn't as much of an IDP's delight as it used to be.
Frostee Rucker, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns
Fantasy value: Weak No. 2 or strong No. 3
- Rucker managed just one solo tackle in Week 3; however, he is averaging 4.3 tackles (2.7 solo) per game for the season.
- The Browns have allowed the least amount of tackles this year to this position with only 9.7 total tackles (8.3 solo) per game.
Fantasy football busts: Linebackers
Andra Davis, Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals
Fantasy value: Weak No. 2 or strong No. 3
- Davis finished tied for the team lead with eight tackles in Week 3, and he is averaging 6.7 total tackles (4.7 solo) per game this season.
- Opposing linebackers have managed just 21.7 total tackles (17 solo) and 0.3 sacks per game against the Bengals this year.
- Look for the Bengals to test the Browns' weak secondary, restricting Davis's chances to tackle running backs.
Keith Rivers, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns
Fantasy value: Midrange No. 3
- Rivers is second among Bengals linebackers with an average of 6.7 total tackles (4.3 solo) per game this year.
- The Browns are giving up only 17.7 total tackles (15.3 solo) and 1.0 sack per game to this position this season.
Paul Posluszny, Buffalo Bills at St. Louis Rams
Fantasy value: Midrange No. 3
- Posluszny is averaging six total tackles (4.3 solo) per game this year, which is first among Bills linebackers.
- The Rams have allowed just 16.3 total tackles allowed to this position per game this year; that's tied for the lowest total in the league. They are also allowing 1.0 sack per game to the position.
Fantasy football busts: Defensive backs
Antoine Winfield, Minnesota Vikings at Tennessee Titans
Fantasy value: Midrange No. 3
- Winfield is averaging 3.7 total tackles (three solo) per game this season and has recorded the only sack among Vikings defensive backs.
- Opposing defensive backs have managed just 26 total tackles (20.7 solo) and 0.7 interceptions per game against the run-first Titans this year.
Roman Harper, New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers
Fantasy value: Midrange No. 2
- Harper currently sits third among Saints defensive backs with an average of 5.5 tackles (all solo) per game this season.
- The 49ers are allowing just 19.3 total tackles (16.3 solo) and 0.3 interceptions per game to this position in their first three games.
Chris Hope, Tennessee Titans vs. Minnesota Vikings
Fantasy value: Midrange No. 3
- Hope led the team in tackles last week with six solo efforts; he is averaging six total tackles (3.7 solo) per game for the season.
- In three games this season, opposing defensive backs are averaging 23.3 total tackles (20 solo), 0.7 sacks and 0.3 interceptions per game against the Vikings.
