Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young could have torn MCL

The Associated Press reports the Tennessee Titans believe quarterback Vince Young (knee) has a torn medial collateral ligament that will sideline him two to four weeks, according to the NFL Network's Adam Schefter. Young is expected to undergo an MRI Monday, Sept. 8, to see if the original diagnosis is confirmed.

With Young out of action, the team will rely on veteran Kerry Collins. Collins may actually turn out to be the better option for fantasy football participants, as he is more of a pure passing quarterback. The team could also explore several options on the free-agent market, including Chris Simms and Tim Rattay, but Collins has more experience than them.

Unfortunately for Collins, the Titans lack true playmakers at the wide receiver position. Rookie running back Chris Johnson (undisclosed) looked tremendous during Week 1, but he left the game early with an undisclosed injury. However, he could lean on tight ends Alge Crumpler and Bo Scaife; Scaife had six catches for 105 yards, and Collins found him for a 44-yard pass in the fourth quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

If you went into the season relying on Young as your No. 1 quarterback, you definitely need to rush out and acquire Collins. However, chances are high you didn't rely on Young as anything more than a backup... and that is a smart move.

Depending on when your starter has a bye week, you may be able to just sit patiently and wait this out. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to investigate adding a new option. Collins should be considered no better than a low-end No. 2 fantasy football option at quarterback. He simply does not have enough weapons around him to count on. The New England Patriots' Matt Cassel, the Miami Dolphins' Chad Pennington and the San Francisco 49ers' J.T. O'Sullivan should all be names on your radar, too.
