The New York Mets are expected to approach 3B David Wright with an opening contract offer around $100 million, according to people familiar with the team's plans. New York is expected to negotiate with Wright for most of this month before entertaining trade possibilities. The Mets would also like to sign SP R.A. Dickey to an extension. Wright remains optimistic that a deal can be reached.

3B | Alex Rodriguez | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi hinted that he may drop 3B Alex Rodriguez down in the batting order after he's gone 1-for-9 with five strikeouts in the first two games of the American League Division Series. "I think that we're going to do whatever it takes to win this three-game series," Girardi said when asked specifically about moving A-Rod. "Nothing that we do will be something that is just a knee-jerk reaction."

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey would catch SP Barry Zito in a potential Game 4 of the Divisional Series against the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, Oct. 10. C Hector Sanchez caught 25 of Zito's 32 starts in the regular season. Zito had a 4.08 ERA in 143 1/3 innings with Sanchez catching and a 4.39 ERA in 41 innings with Posey catching him.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig (elbow) will miss the Arizona Fall League due to a staph infection of his right elbow.

I bounced back pretty well the last couple years after that so I'm looking at that with a lot of optimism."

The Kansas City Royals have privately acknowledged that they will exercise their $750,000 buyout on RP Joakim Soria's (elbow) $8 million option for the 2013 season, which will make him a free agent. However, Kansas City would like to bring him back on a new deal which would have a much lower guarantee and include plenty of performance bonuses. Soria is currently throwing twice a week and is expected to move to three times a week by late October.
