You'll see Sands at some point

Bobby Abreu heads up the freeway to join the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers. Expect the 38-year-old, recently cut by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, to serve as depth while playing the occasional left field.

The position hasn't been sound for the Blue, though, so he has a moderately attractive playing-time avenue. The Dodgers have employed a mix of Juan Rivera, Tony Gwynn Jr. and Jerry Hairston Jr.

Though Abreu's walk rate and many contact skills are on the decline, his general approach of patience could warm him to Don Mattingly over time if the other 7 patrollers aren't getting it done; a spot somewhere in the middle of the order would offer a boost to his RBI column, his likeliest place of contribution.

NL-only stashers should go to work. Mixed leaguers shouldn't chase Abreu yet, but he should be on watch lists in leagues that start five outfielders.

This inking shouldn't discourage those tucking away Jerry Sands in NL-only setups; the righty power bat should find his way to the big club sometime this year. He has cut down on K's and increased his walks at Triple-A Albuquerque, but it's hard to think he'll offer BA help in the coming years. Luckily, he holds potential for 20-plus homers in a full season down the road and would follow that path whenever he arrives in LA.
