Terrible, terrible, terrible. Not that it's a bad mock. On the contrary, that mock highlights my greatest fear. Both Locker and Mallett slide and the Lions are left with all the guys I have targeted gone at #13. Hope there's a new CBA and the Lions get to trade down if this scenario happens. Detroit could use an extra third in this scenario.
Vikings can play serious wildcard here. If Gabbert or Newton is off the board, trading down is strong possibility. Surely, they can pick up Locker or Mallet later in Round 1.
Lions GM Mayhew has stated several times they don't reach, CB could easily be grabbed in the 2nd round. They draft best player available, not on need, Julio Jones makes the most sense there
Matt - Assuming you're a Lions fan, too, I think I speak for many saying the sour taste of first-round receivers is still too fresh in the mind. The Lions can win with the WRs they have now; they cannot win with the defense they have now.
My cowboys can trade down...gain another pick or two, then draft Mark Ingram at say...15.We can draft defensive guys all day.Its a deep draft for defense. What do you think?
I want to see Mark Ingram at the combine, but he does remind me of Emmett. Emmett was not the fastest guy in the world, but he had a pretty good career. Also trade M Barber and/or Choic for more picks on defense
Roger-I agree that defense is the greater need, but Jimmy Smith isn't worth the 13th pick. The only position Mayhew said he wouldn't grab in the 1st is QB. The last WR they drafted in the first worked out pretty well. Defenses have an easier time when they're playing with a lead, so if there isn't value on defense Jones makes more sense
I say that picking an OL in round one or a LB is what the Giants need to do. It isn't sexy, but that is where the battles are won. New York has enough depth at WR and RB to wait until rounds 2 through 4 to consider getting another RB and another WR. Of course, they could just get Plaxico Burress, but the re-signing of Coach Coughlin all but rules that out. It may be best for NY to go OL in round one and then a LB in round 2.
If Miami passes on Ingram, I am done with them. They really need a running back to help the passing game. Ricky and Ronnie might not even be there. They need to start building something. Then if they do not get a top free agent quarterback, they can draft one in the 3rd round. They must concentrate on offense this year.
I really doubt both Brandon Harris and Aaron Williams will go before Jimmy Smith. Would love it though since that would mean the Steelers will get a chance to draft Smith.
SteelSD nothing would be better. To both pouncy brothers WOW! Like they said when they were at Florida together it was like a brick wall to get behind both for the Qb and the runners....they road grated people and they pass protect like a dual unit...only problem I don't think he will last that long. But there is something that can be made for him in Pittsburgh, while in college this past season he didn't play up to par like he did the previous 2 years and the biggest reason was his brother wasn't there with him, now that is what was said so maybe he can slide and if so what a left or right side they could have for years...again WOW!!!
i have been a lions fan since 1952.i know michiganders can count .but that is 59 years for the rest of the nfl. our lions are finally showing some audacity in the use of their draft picks and free agent signings, martin mayhew has a head on his shoulders that he uses not like our former Gm. i wish the lions all of the luck in the world especially against green bay ,all my regards to the faithful that have hung with the lions all these years. thanks lions20
