Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league. Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly. Key
PitchersEdinson Volquez, SP, Cincinnati Reds The Reds recalled Volquez, whose first stint in his return from TJS didn't go particularly smoothly. There is widespread speculation that he could replace Aaron Harang in the rotation, beginning this Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Volquez claims that he corrected some issues he had, particularly with the arm angle he used with his changeup, in the minors. In two starts (13 innings) with Class A Dayton, the righty gave up 11 hits, two earned runs and - the key - four walks. He also fanned 19. Volquez can dominate kids. He needs to do it in the majors. If he gets that chance again ... you know what he's capable of. Shallow mixed: Watch Deep mixed: Consider NL-only: Acquire Carlos Silva, SP, Chicago Cubs The wheels might have been beginning to fall off before a heart problem sidelined Silva a little more than a month ago. Therefore, his first start back from the disabled list (five innings, nine hits, six runs, one walk, four K's) - on Tuesday versus the Houston Astros - isn't encouraging. The right-hander has posted a 3.33 K/BB and a grounder rate approaching 50 percent this season. His indicators don't suggest that a big correction to his 4.22 ERA or 1.27 WHIP is coming. Silva has won 10 games this year; maybe he can tack on a couple more. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Consider NL-only: Acquire Brad Lincoln, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates The Bucs will use him in the bullpen for a bit, but it sounds as if manager John Russell plans to plug the Pirates' best farm-raised prospect to join the rotation in recent memory into the rotation. The righty didn't impress (1-4, 6.57 ERA, 1.54 WHIP in nine starts) in his first go-round. He placed blame at the feet of minor mechanical "checkpoints" that he said took away from his focus of just getting hitters out. He vowed to be more aggressive this time around. Sounds like wait-and-see material, regardless, but he remains a pitcher with upside. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Pass NL-only: Consider Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market - ALAbout Nicholas Minnix
