• By choice? M's stick with Aardsma

  After Buck Showalter's flowery display of mild affection for Alfredo Simon, the closer apparently turned into a Venus Flytrap on Monday by allowing a solo homer in a blown save. Simon has an 8.31 ERA with a 2.08 WHIP and two homers allowed in his last four appearances (4 1/3 innings). Keep Mike Gonzalez in your waiver wire wheelhouse.
• J.J. Putz served as the Chicago White Sox's "closer" Monday; the righty gave up a solo homer to lose it in the bottom of the 10th. Bobby Jenks? He warmed up in the eighth, but that ended up being a throwing session instead.
  Manager Ozzie Guillen didn't say what role Jenks would've been used in if needed Monday and said Jenks will continue with his side throwing if he isn't used in a game. Guillen looks like he's sticking by his banishment of Jenks for the moment. If Putz is still available, grab him immediately. Jenks owners should tuck him away until he rediscovers save work.
• The Seattle Mariners have stuck with David Aardsma beyond the non-waiver trade deadline, and the righty has responded in his last 10 innings: a 0.90 ERA, a 0.60 WHIP and 12 K's. There's an outside chance he could be moved before the waiver trade deadline, but he's worth sticking with down the stretch. You could handcuff Brandon League to him if it's advantageous in your league.
• Fly balls will curse him, but Brian Fuentes has been one of the more pleasant surprises for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The lefty, a rocky stopper for most of last year, has compiled a 0.53 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and 14 K's in his last 17 innings (since June 21).
