Adam Moore, C, Seattle Mariners

The M's optioned Rob Johnson to Triple-A Tacoma and called up Moore, 26, today. Moore rose through the system slowly, but he has been a solid hitter throughout his farm stint. He has a .303 average and .482 slugging percentage in the minors. He could provide help as a second backstop.

Brantley back soon

Moore's homer power appears to be dwindling, and he's a .200 hitter in 80 major league at-bats. He has been playing for Tacoma for a month a half since his activation from the DL, where he spent a month with a leg injury. He has batted .321 with three dingers and 15 RBIs in 134 at-bats.

Corner infielders

Mike Lowell, 3B, Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox had to place Kevin Youkilis (thumb) on the disabled list. There's no indication about how much time Youk will miss, but when the injury occurred, the BoSox didn't sound extremely concerned.

Boston activated Lowell from the disabled list; he'll likely fill in most of the time. He was 11-for-22 with four homers and 10 RBIs during his rehab stint. He might have a little left in the tank, for the short term.

Outfielders

Michael Brantley, OF, Cleveland Indians

The Tribe announced that they'll recall Brantley as soon as they're able, which should be just a few days, since he was optioned at the beginning of last week. The trade of Austin Kearns to the New York Yankees opened up a roster spot and PT.

Brantley has struggled in the majors this year, but he has decent BA capacity and can swipe a few. Unless you're desperate, there's no need to rush. Trevor Crowe has been adequate, too. Brantley has a little more upside, in the long run. Shelley Duncan has been filling in for the past couple of games and had four hits last night, but Cleveland isn't invested in him.
