Fantasy baseball waivers and the acquisition of fantasy baseball free agents can make or break your season. Your fantasy baseball cheat sheets won't help you after spring training. If your team remains the same after opening day, you will have trouble competing in your rotisserie baseball league. Do you need to replace your fantasy baseball busts? Which fantasy baseball players can you ignore? KFFL.com's Fantasy Baseball Diamond Market gives you fantasy baseball tips and insight to sort through the masses quickly. Key
CatchersCraig Tatum, C, Baltimore Orioles
With Matt Wieters (hamstring) sidelined, Tatum will be the starting backstop. Besides a notable batting eye ratio, he doesn't possess many intriguing run-production skills. League-only two-catcher setups itch for cheap playing time, though, and Tatum's .308-0-2 line in his last 26 at-bats (eight games, seven started) might scratch that, at least for a bit. Maybe he can bump your batting average a bit. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Pass AL-only: Watch Corner infieldersJosh Bell, 3B, Baltimore Orioles The O's brought the prospect back up with Matt Wieters (hamstring) on the DL. Bell didn't exactly toll major league pitching, going 3-for-15 with eight K's in his five-game stint earlier in the month. Plate discipline looks like it'll keep him overwhelmed as long as he's a big leaguer this year. Time at third base and designated hitter could be for the taking, but that isn't enough to earn a long-term investment, especially with Luke Scott (hamstring) potentially returning in the next few weeks. Shallow mixed: Pass Deep mixed: Watch AL-only: Watch PitchersBrett Anderson, SP, Oakland Athletics It's amazing how often fantasy leaguers drop elite DLed talent, even with limited tuckaway spots. The blossoming grounder-friendly lefty might just be on a waiver wire near you. His Thursday rehab assignment for Oakland's Arizona League team was a jumping point: four innings, seven hits, one run, four K's and no walks. Anderson could be back next week; it shouldn't be much longer than that, if not. Grab him. Now. Shallow mixed: Acquire Deep mixed: Acquire AL-only: Acquire Rick Porcello, SP, Detroit Tigers He's slated to start Saturday against the Cleveland Indians in an open rotation spot. While that could be a nice chance for a waiver wire win, don't get too excited for Porcello's long-term prospects. Though manager Jim Leyland expects Porcello back at some point, he's playing the righty's stay by ear. Porcello's sinker wasn't sinking in the bigs this year. Big problem. Problem solved? Reports say his sinker has come back, and at Triple-A Toledo he has notched 3.29 ground-outs for every air-out. He hasn't been too bad otherwise, with a 3.21 ERA. K's still aren't a strong suit, though (just 6.11 per nine in Toledo); he still pitches to contact often. Even with those negatives, Porcello could round out a deep rotation if his biggest pitch returns to form and his grounders remain plentiful. If you have a place for a spot starter, this is a decent time to use it, especially since there's some season-long potential here.
