In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up?'s Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Mound meetings

  • Alfredo Simon (hamstring) could be activated before the end of the Baltimore Orioles' current homestand, which concludes Sunday. The righty, who has been running and throwing without pain, is slated to regain closer duties once he's back. Grab him if he was dropped in your league.
Mike Gonzalez (shoulder) allowed a hit Tuesday in a scoreless inning of extended Spring Training. His fastball sat in the mid-80s. Expect the lefty to throw in another extended contest before he heads to rehab, which given his progress so far could take at least another few weeks.
  • Baltimore Orioles RP Mike Gonzalez
Gonzalez appears no closer to a return
The Minnesota Twins' Matt Guerrier swiped a save with a one-batter appearance Tuesday. Jose Mijares entered the ninth with a six-run advantage but allowed two to cross the plate. With two runners on, Guerrier put out the fire with the tying run on deck.
Closer Jon Rauch hasn't pitched since June 5. He admitted last week to battling some hamstring tightness this year, but he recorded back-to-back saves last Friday and Saturday. Maybe they were giving him some more time off.
  • Daniel Bard again held down the Boston Red Sox fort Tuesday by recording a scoreless save. He walked one and struck out two. Jonathan Papelbon, who's on the bereavement list, can rejoin Boston on Thursday but might wait until Friday, when the team returns home.
