In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up?'s Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Job security (JS) score 1 (unstable) to 5 (untouchable)
Health (H) score 1 (injury-prone) to 5 (durable)

Milwaukee Brewers

Closer: Trevor Hoffman

Understudy: Carlos Villanueva

Lurkers: John Axford, Todd Coffey, Zach Braddock

Disabled list: LaTroy Hawkins (shoulder)

Milwaukee Brewers RP Trevor Hoffman
Hoffman: back in the saddle?

Hoffman threw one scoreless inning in Milwaukee's 5-0 loss yesterday. Prior to Wednesday's game, manager Ken Macha said Hoffman would make at least one more setup appearance before possibly returning to closing. After Wednesday's game, Macha said he would discuss Hoffman's role with the vet. Hoffman could be back as early as today.

Now, the Hoff is no sure thing, but he's your best bet in Milwaukee and should be on rosters. Too many have dropped him. Add him if he's available. Villanueva shouldn't be discarded just yet, even though his path to saves is muddier.

Job security score: 1

Health score: 4

Mound meetings

  • Huston Street (groin, shoulder) said he felt fine yesterday after his Tuesday throwing session. He'll throw again today.
His replacement, Manuel Corpas, meanwhile, has reminded his manager, Jim Tracy, of the '07 version of Corpas, the one that compiled 18 saves, a 1.54 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in the second half of that year.
