In fantasy baseball, the closer position remains volatile. Rarely does every closer hang on to the job for an entire season - injuries, poor performance and managerial decisions can cloud a team's bullpen picture.

Should you be concerned about a struggling stopper? Which relievers are climbing the depth chart? Are any injuries popping up?'s Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat keeps you informed when you're looking for saves.

Job security (JS) score 1 (unstable) to 5 (untouchable)
Health (H) score 1 (injury-prone) to 5 (durable)

Colorado Rockies

Closer: Committee

Understudy: Manuel Corpas, Franklin Morales

Disabled list: Huston Street (shoulder)

Colorado Rockies RP Manny Corpas
Corpas alive and well for saves

No save chances came up to test manager Jim Tracy over the weekend, but he said the right-handed Corpas will be an option at the end of games moving forward. No longer will Morales be his main choice.

Corpas' trust in his slider has helped overcome a decrease in fastball velocity since his breakout 2007 campaign. He has relied on it when his fastball isn't there.

Corpas should give you the best shot to boost your saves in the short term. His added value is tied to Street's absence, though, so a quick recovery by Street would limit Corpas' contribution.

Morales, a lefty and only 24, shouldn't be discarded in single-universe leagues and those in deeps desperate for closures. He might garner a chance or two if the matchups are southpaw-friendly.

Street's rehab could begin soon after he throws a bullpen session today.

Mound meetings

  • The Philadelphia Phillies' Brad Lidge earned his first save of the year Sunday. It was a perfect inning but two deep flyballs were a bit worrisome. Lidge didn't seem too concerned: "We have a two-run lead, so throw strikes and if they hit them up into the wind, we're going to be fine."
Manager Charlie Manuel on Lidge: "He's our closer." Jose Contreras is still worth ownership in NL-only as the likely next option after Lidge.
