Updating previous reports, Houston Astros 1B Lance Berkman (knee) underwent successful surgery to remove cartilage debris in his left knee Saturday, March 13, according to Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle. Manager Bradley Mills said the level of concern "has gone way down" because no ligament or meniscus damage was found. Berkman rejoined the club to begin his rehabilitation Sunday, March 14, which included leg raises, quadriceps flexes and icing his leg. "It's pretty mundane stuff but important to get everything fired up again," he said. "In two weeks, I'll be able to do pretty much everything. I'm not sure they're going to want me to play in a game at that point, but I think two weeks, and I think I should be pretty much back to normal."

He is expected to receive epidural anesthesia to treat the slight herniated disc suffered during offseason workouts at the Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona. Roberts has been limited in baseball activities and hasn't hit in five or six days. "At this point, I don't have anything that gives me major trouble or discomfort," he said. "I mean, I've had some discomfort. Hitting was probably the biggest issue at that point. We're trying to push it forward as best as we can." Roberts will rejoin the team in Sarasota, Fla., no later than Tuesday, March 16.
