1) Carlos Beltran, OF, New York Mets

Team: Eriq Gardner, The Hardball Times | Roster

Beltran has tortured me since the 10th round and researching his medical prognosis hasn't been very helpful. Let's hope that Round 16 is enough of a discount to roll the dice.

2) Ryan Franklin, RP, St. Louis Cardinals

Team: Pasko Varnica, Mastersball | Roster

The Cardinals and Tony LaRussa have confidence in him. I project him to finish with 35 saves. With 22 closers gone, the choice was limited to Franklin or Leo Nunez.

3) Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco Giants

Team: Tim Heaney, KFFL | Roster

Necessary evil: I know they'll rest Molina more, perhaps with Buster Posey. Molina is declining, but at this point I couldn't skip a C with certain power.

4) Rafael Furcal, SS, Los Angeles Dodgers

Team: Ray Flowers, Baseball Guys | Roster

A risk since he stopped running last season. Still, he is a decent starting option at short, and he will allow me to use Miguel Tejada at 3B once the season is underway.

5) Carlos Ruiz, C, Philadelphia Phillies

Team: Harold Nichols, Baseball HQ | Roster

There are signs of an impending breakout: rising walk rate and ratio of walks to strikeouts, second half power surge, improved BA vs. lefties. He could be the surprise catcher of the year.

6) Clay Buchholz, SP, Boston Red Sox

Team: Steve Gardner, USA Today | Roster

Buchholz seems to be on the verge of a breakthrough season after going 4-1 last September with a 2.87 ERA. Yes, he's a No. 5 starter but with Boston's upgraded defense, he still stands a decent chance of 12-14 wins.

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz
Buchholz ready to break out in 2010?

7) Roy Oswalt, SP, Houston Astros

Team: Nicholas Minnix, KFFL | Roster

Couldn't leave him on the board any longer. ERA spike was a fluke. New regimen quells back concerns. At this point, proven producer isn't a risk.

8) A.J. Pierzynski, C, Chicago White Sox

Team: Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster

I was close to nabbing a catcher a few times. At this point, it looks like I waited too long, especially in our two-catcher format. He isn't flashy but hits for a high average for a catcher and is usually good for double-digit homers.

9) Matt Capps, RP, Washington Nationals

Team: Collin Hager, FantasyPros911.com | Roster

I only want two closers, and Capps is going to be solid for a year. Drew Storen will be in the minors, and there will be enough save opps. for Capps.

10) Julio Borbon, OF, Texas Rangers

Team: Doug Anderson, RotoExperts | Roster

He's a serious threat to steal 50-plus bases and score 100-plus runs. I don't see any real threat to his playing time, so as long as he maintains a decent BA, it's off to the races.

11) Franklin Gutierrez, OF, Seattle Mariners

Team: Ryan Lester, Lester's Legends | Roster

Gutierrez makes a great fourth outfielder (or fifth depending on how my roster shakes out). He hit for average (.285) with decent runs (85), HR (18), and SB (16) last year. He has the potential to have a 20-20 season.

12) Ted Lilly, SP, Chicago Cubs

Team: Joe Hamrahi, Baseball Prospectus | Roster

Surprised Lilly was still here. Always posts excellent strikeout/walk ratios and has really kept his WHIP in check the last few years. I expect more of the same.
