First Baseman

1B | Jose Julio Ruiz | free agent | Free Agency News, Fantasy's Alden Gonzalez reports that Cuban 1B prospect Jose Julio Ruiz has drawn interest from at least seven major league clubs and could sign a contract within the next few days. The Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays are among the teams that have expressed the most interest, according to agent Jorge Luis Toca, who was recently interviewed by the Spanish language newspaper El Nuevo Herald. "The idea is to find a team where he'll have the best opportunity to rise the quickest," he said. Toca added that Ruiz expects to be in major league spring training camp and playing at the big league level at some point this year.

1B | Jason Giambi | Colorado Rockies | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Denver Post's Troy E. Renck reports that Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy would prefer to have a five-man bench this season. The favorites for the five bench spots are OFs Seth Smith and Ryan Spilborghs, IFs Jason Giambi and Melvin Mora, and the loser of the starting catcher competition between Chris Iannetta and Miguel Olivo.

1B | Gaby Sanchez | Florida Marlins | Fantasy
According to The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers, the Florida Marlins aren't sure who is going to play first base. Incumbent 1B Jorge Cantu has driven in 195 runs the last two years, but IFs Gaby Sanchez and Logan Morrison are getting chances to force him back to third base. Some are mentioning Morrison as a possible Rookie of the Year candidate.

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Fantasy
According to The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers, the New York Mets are going to watch 1B prospect Ike Davis closely this spring. Davis was a first-round pick in 2008 from Arizona State and Rogers speculates he could be a better alternative at first than a Daniel Murphy-Fernando Tatis platoon.

SS | Adeinis Hechavarria | free agent | Fantasy
The New York Post's George A. King III reports that the New York Yankees may be serious bidders on 19-year-old Cuban SS Adeinis Hechavarria when the Office of Foreign Assets Committee (OFAC) allows him to sign with major league clubs. However, he cannot be signed by anyone until OFAC verifies his age, residency and identity - all of which could be completed as soon as this week. Hechavarria defected in Mexico last year after playing for the Cuban Junior National team two years ago.

SS | Erick Aybar | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
The Chicago Tribune reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim IFs Erick Aybar and Maicer Izturis may be options to replace 3B Chone Figgins (now with the Seattle Mariners) at the leadoff spot.

Third Baseman

3B | Mike Lowell | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers reports that the Boston Red Sox still hope to trade 3B Mike Lowell during spring training, but could use him as a part-time designated hitter if they are unable to move him.

OF | Brett Gardner | New York Yankees | Fantasy
The New York Post's George A. King III reports that New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner joined the informal workouts at the club's minor league complex Friday, Feb. 12. He has been working on bunting the ball more in order to utilize his speed and also plans to do some defensive drills while playing right field. "You never know what might happen," Gardner said. "It's never a bad thing being able to play some different positions well. I just need to continue to work on that and where they want to put me, I'll be happy."

OF | B.J. Upton | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
The Associated Press reports Tampa Bay Rays OF B.J. Upton lost his arbitration case Saturday, Feb. 13. Eligible for arbitration for the first time, Upton received a raise from $435,000 to $3 million this year rather than his request for $3.3 million.

He is expected to begin the season as the No. 2 starter, behind SP Ubaldo Jimenez, with SPs Aaron Cook, Jorge De La Rosa and SP Jason Hammel following him in the rotation. However, manager Jim Tracy said there is a possibility that Francis and De La Rosa could swap spots.

SP | Jamie Moyer | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Andy Martino reports that Philadelphia Phillies SP Jamie Moyer did not rule out the possibility that he could pitch beyond the 2010 season. "You know, I'm going to leave that as an open-ended question because I don't know how to answer that," Moyer said. "It could be (my last season). It potentially could be. But so could have last year. So could have two years ago, so could have five years ago." Moyer's current contract expires at the end of this year.

SP | Derek Holland | Texas Rangers | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy

The team believes Neftali Feliz has front-of-the-rotation stuff, but his future remains in the bullpen for the time being.

SP | David Hernandez | Baltimore Orioles | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Baltimore Sun reports Baltimore Orioles RPs David Hernandez and Jason Berken will compete with Kam Mickolio, Cla Meredith, Matt Albers and Dennis Sarfate for two right-handed openings in the bullpen.
