Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

If you are serious about winning your fantasy league football championship, stay on top of your fantasy football team throughout the year.

Each week during the NFL fantasy football season, KFFL brings you its Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, which breaks down players to pick up. Be aggressive when picking up fantasy football free agents. Even if you do not need a player, you can tuck him away for depth or block others from adding him to their fantasy football team.

Fantasy football free agents: One-week plays

The following fantasy football pickups are for those who need injury or bye week replacements. They are not players you immediately acquire - unless your team is in dire straights. Some have, however, shown some life and should be followed in case they materialize as options beyond their temporary use.

James Jones, Green Bay Packers (88 percent)

Jones has tallied just three catches in the last three weeks; one was a touchdown. In total, he has just 42 receiving yards in that time. He should be given more opportunities with the Packers secure in their playoff spot but not seeding. They play the Arizona Cardinals this week in what could be a preview of their Wild Card playoff matchup.

Arizona has been fairly generous to this position over the last six weeks with 12.83 receptions and 151.0 receiving yards allowed per game. We figure Green Bay could limit the workload of tight end Jermichael Finley and receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver a bit in Week 17; this should mean more work for Jones.

Moose replaces Steve Smith

Muhsin Muhammad, Carolina Panthers (86 percent)

Steve Smith (arm) is done for the year; the vet Muhammad should step into the role as the main pass catcher on the Panthers. Carolina's Week 17 opponent, the New Orleans Saints, has allowed 11.83 receptions, 168.7 receiving yards and 0.83 receiving touchdowns per game to this position in the last six weeks.

Quarterback Matt Moore has proven himself to be a serviceable QB for Carolina over the last two weeks with 470 yards and six touchdowns in those two games. Smith had received 28 targets in the three games he completed with Moore starting. Moose won't receive all of those targets, but he should see a bump in his looks.

Malcom Floyd, San Diego Chargers (76 percent)

San Diego has their playoff spot locked up this week; thus, we don't expect to see as much of tight end Antonio Gates or wide receiver Vincent Jackson. This should elevate Floyd to the top option for backup quarterback Billy Volek.

The 'Skins have struggled, somewhat, over the last six weeks against the position; they're allowing 10.50 receptions, 145.5 receiving yards and 1.33 receiving touchdowns per game to the position in that time. They also could struggle to contain Floyd's 6-foot-5 frame. Oh, and don't worry about a backup QB throwing to Floyd; Volek has shown in the past he can be a serviceable option when called upon.

Hank Baskett, Indianapolis Colts (99 percent)

We aren't sold on Curtis Painter taking over for Peyton Manning behind center; it might not result in sustained drives for this offense. However, if you are looking for a player that might be worth starting based on PT alone, Baskett is one to eye.

The fourth-year wideout has participated in 10 games this year for Indy, though he has just three catches for 21 yards to show for it. With the Colts likely resting their starters, we should see a fair bit of Baskett this week. Buffalo has been middle of the pack when it comes to fantasy opportunity for opposing wideouts; they're allowing 10.67 receptions, 127.0 receiving yards and 1.17 receiving touchdowns per game.
