The Baltimore Sun reports free-agent 1B first baseman Carlos Delgado (Mets), who had hip surgery in May, will begin playing for Carolina of the Puerto Rican Winter League on Dec. 15, according to his agent, David Sloane. At some point, the Baltimore Orioles will be one of the teams in attendance to watch the 37-year-old slugger, who played in just 26 major league games last season.

Joe Capozzi, of The Palm Beach Post, reports Florida Marlins SP Josh M. Johnson may be next out the door down the line, as the sides are far apart on a contract extension. "Josh obviously wanted to do something to stay long-term with the Marlins, but it doesn't look that way now,' his agent, Matt Sosnick, said. Johnson is entering his second winter of arbitration but was hoping to sign a four-year contract worth at least $40 million. The Marlins were believed to be willing to go no longer than three years for about $22 million.

The Washington Post's Dave Sheinin, updating a previous item, is reporting Washington Nationals SP prospect Stephen Strasburg (knee), who was injured Thursday, Nov. 19, prior to an Arizona Fall League game, has a dislocated kneecap. The news means the 21-year-old right-hander will avoid surgery and should have no trouble being ready for spring training in February. "It was the best result that we could have hoped for," general manager Mike Rizzo said. "It's something where he just has to rest and follow a physical therapy regimen to strengthen all the ligaments around his knee. We think we dodged a bullet."
