Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 7 to Week 10, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football busts: Tight ends

Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

    Jason Witten, TE, Dallas Cowboys
    Don't be smitten with Witten
  • The slumping star hasn't lived up to fantasy expectations this year, but he hasn't caught fewer than four passes in any game this year. Witten has averaged 5.25 receptions for 44.8 yards in his past four showings. Those numbers are acceptable, but fantasy owners are pulling their hair out over Witten's single touchdown reception this year (none in the past month).
  • The Redskins' defense of the position has been impressive lately. They have allowed 4.00 catches per game, which leaves them in a multi-way tie for the 13th fewest per game in the past month. That's not too shabby. What is most remarkable is how they don't let these catches turn into big gains. The 'Skins have yielded only 26.0 yards (fourth fewest) and 0.33 touchdowns per game in this time.
  • It's not like they have faced slouches, either, having played the Atlanta Falcons' Tony Gonzalez, the Philadelphia Eagles' Brent Celek and the Denver Broncos' Tony Scheffler in these games.

NEW - Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs

Fantasy value: Flex or bench

  • Miller's impact has decreased in the last couple of weeks as he has just seven receptions for 44 yards in that time. He has just 16 targets in their last three games.
  • Don't expect him to turn it around this week; tight ends are averaging only 2.33 receptions and 22.3 receiving yards per game against the Chiefs.
  • They've faced the San Diego Chargers' Antonio Gates and the Oakland Raiders' Zach Miller, so it's not like they're facing scrubs. The former had a decent game (five catches for 55 yards) against them, but the latter managed just one reception for nine yards.
