Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 4 to Week 7, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football busts: Quarterbacks

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1

  • Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan
    No welcome Matt in N'awlins
Ryan has been prone to turning over the ball since the team's Week 4 bye, throwing five interceptions in three games after just one in the three games prior to the week off. He also lost a fumble in Week 7. The former Boston College standout has thrown for less than 200 yards each of the past two weeks.
  • Over the past month, New Orleans has limited quarterbacks to 199.7 passing yards and 0.67 touchdowns while picking off a pair of passes per game. They have averaged 2.67 sacks per outing, as well.
  • Ryan averaged 282.0 passing yards and 1.5 throwing touchdowns per game in two matchups against the Saints in his rookie season, but this defense is a much better unit than what he was able to pick apart.

Alex D. Smith, San Francisco 49ers at Indianapolis Colts

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1 or bench

  • Despite a strong effort in the second half last week, Smith has shown us time after time that he can't be relied on for consistent play. His career has been marred by turnover-prone play, and Smith is seemingly an injury waiting to happen. The Niners remain a run-first offense, and if they weren't forced to come from behind last week, how many times would he have passed?
  • The Colts have been stingy against the position in recent weeks, allowing only 187.0 passing yards, 4.3 rushing yards and 0.67 total touchdowns per game to quarterbacks in their past three games. Indy has downed enemy passers an average of 3.0 times per game, too.
