Fantasy football busts: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Note: All statistics are from Week 2 to Week 5, unless otherwise noted.

Fantasy football busts: Quarterbacks

Matt Cassel, Kansas City Chiefs at Washington Redskins

Fantasy value: Low-end no. 1 or bench

• Despite the Redskins receiving a rash of criticism for their poor play most of the season, their pass defense is actually very strong. In the past month, Washington has given up the third fewest yards per game to the position (163.3). This defense is surrendering a lone passing touchdown per contest and no scores on the ground during the same timeframe.
• Fantasy owners shouldn't expect much from Cassel this weekend, but he is a worthwhile play in deep leagues due to bye weeks.

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens at Minnesota Vikings

Fantasy value: Bench

• Flacco not a smart play this week

  Following a strong start to the season, Flacco has struggled through his last two games. He has thrown an equal number of touchdowns to interceptions (three) in those appearances.
• Minnesota's run defense is very strong, which will allow their secondary to be aware of Flacco in an attempt to make Baltimore's offense one-sided. Minnesota is allowing 257.0 passing yards and 1.50 touchdown passes per game. They have intercepted 1.25 passes and have sacked the opposing quarterback 3.25 times per game, too.
• Flacco should remain on your bench this week unless you feel extraordinarily lucky.

NEW - Eli Manning, New York Giants at New Orleans Saints

Fantasy value: Low-end No. 1 or bench

• Manning has certainly earned his offseason payday this year. He has thrown for 1,212 yards with 10 touchdowns and only two interceptions. Last week he needed roughly one half to rack up 173 yards and two TDs before being pulled.
• New Orleans' defense has allowed just 228.3 passing yards and 0.67 touchdowns per game over the last four weeks (three games). They've also picked off 2.33 passes per game in that time. Those numbers are inflated by the Philadelphia Eagles' Kevin Kolb, who threw for 391 yards in mostly garbage time during Week 2.
• New York could feature the run heavily, too, in an effort to control the clock and keep New Orleans' high-powered offense off the field.
• The Saints held Manning to just 74 yards and one touchdown on 25 attempts, while also forcing one interception in Week 16 of 2006; this happened despite New Orleans sporting a worse defense than their current incarnation. Also, when Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was with the Washington Redskins (2004-2007), Manning threw for more than 250 yards just once and never had a multi-TD game.
• It's tough to bench Manning given his current form; still, if you have a top backup with a good matchup, you'll want to consider him strongly.
