Jim Caple, of ESPN.com, reports Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau (back) will miss the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in his lower back. A CT scan Monday, Sept. 14, revealed the stress fracture in the L5 vertebrae in his lower back. Surgery won't be necessary, but Morneau will have to rest his back for three months. He'll be able to ride a bike and lift weights, but he'll have to avoid running and doing anything that puts pressure on his spine.

The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers 1B James Loney (neck) lunged to his left trying to make a play on a double down the line leading off the fourth inning and collided with first-base umpire Sam Holbrook. Loney's head went into Holbrook's midsection and Loney fell to the ground, grabbing the back of his neck. Manager Joe Torre rushed out, along with athletic trainer Stan Conte, but Loney got up after several minutes and stayed in the game.
