Fantasy football busts - Week 1: QB | RB | WR | TE | PK | DT

In this article KFFL breaks down the fantasy football busts of the week. Some high-level players will be included, because you need to know when is time to sit a player even though it may not seem appropriate. Primarily, however, we will address the midrange to low-end fantasy options that you rack your brain over each week. Read on to learn which of these players that you wouldn't want in your lineup.

Steve Slaton, Houston Texans
Not the best week to use Slaton

Steve Slaton, Houston Texans vs. New York Jets

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Houston's first-team offense looked sluggish in the preseason, including Slaton's underwhelming 2.9 yards per carry.
  • The Jets defense should remain strong against the run with new head coach Rex Ryan in town and nose tackle Kris Jenkins still clogging space up front.
  • Last year against enemy backs Gang Green was tied for the fifth fewest ground scores (0.50) and the sixth fewest offensive yards (122.0) allowed per game.

DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 1

  • Williams (knee) has been practicing through a knee malady but may be forced into a big workload if Jonathan Stewart (Achilles') can't go for the opener.
  • Though the loss of linebacker Stewart Bradley (knee), the departure of safety Brian Dawkins and the death of former DC Jim Johnson will hurt, the Birds retain a sturdy foundation against opposing carriers, which per game last year ranked fifth in offensive yards allowed (116.5) and tied for the fewest total touchdowns yielded (0.50).

NEW - Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots

Fantasy value: Midrange No. 2

  • F-Jax will be carrying Marshawn Lynch's load, but that doesn't mean he'll have an easy time accumulating numbers. New England ranked 15th in rushing yards allowed per game to this position (97.7) in '08. Under the same parameters, they tied for the fewest receptions allowed to backs (3.31); they've proven capable of limiting Jackson's strength.
  • In his extensive action against the Pats last year (Week 17), Jackson rattled off 136 ground yards on 27 carries (5.0 yards per tote). However, he failed to reach the end zone against them.
  • The Bills removed Turk Schonert from their offensive coordinator post last week. It'll be hard to trust any Bills skill players for the first few weeks of the season.

NEW - LenDale White, Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers

Fantasy value: Weak No. 3 or flex

  • White's team was stout against the run, but the Steel Curtain gave up the third fewest yards per game against backs (75.4) in '08.
  • In his typical time share with Chris Johnson, White mustered 48 yards on 15 carries against Pittsburgh last year despite earning a touchdown. White can be a flex play most weeks, but against defenses this stout it's hard to be confident he can take advantage on his limited touches.
