Daily Fantasy Baseball Offseason Update: Monday, Nov. 11

By KFFL Staff

First Baseman

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Fantasy
The Milwaukee Brewers have had trade talks with the New York Mets about 1B Ike Davis. However, a deal is unlikely.

Second Baseman

2B | Dan Uggla | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy
The Atlanta Braves may be willing to trade 2B Dan Uggla if a team is willing to pick up around one-fourth of the $26 million Uggla is owed over the next two seasons.

2B | Ramon Santiago | free agent | Free Agents
The Detroit Tigers are not expected to re-sign free-agent 2B Ramon Santiago this offseason.

Shortstop

SS | Jason Bartlett | Minnesota Twins | Transaction, Free Agents
The Minnesota Twins signed free-agent SS Jason Bartlett (Padres) to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

SS | Stephen Drew | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
A number of teams are moving quickly in pursuit of free-agent SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox).

SS | Troy Tulowitzki | Colorado Rockies | Fantasy
The St. Louis Cardinals will talk to the Colorado Rockies about a trade for SS Troy Tulowitzki at the GM meetings this week. 1B Matt Adams' name surfaced in earlier trade talks with the two teams.

SS | Elvis Andrus | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Officials from the St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies are expected to meet at the GM/owners' meetings in Orlando this week and discuss parameters of a potential trade involving SS Troy Tulowitzki, which already has been broached in informal talks between the parties. Not only have the Cardinals shown significant interest in Tulowitzki, the Rockies' 29-year-old shortstop, they've inquired about the availability of a shortstop from the Texas Rangers, who have Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar, sources said.

Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Sano | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) has been diagnosed with a strained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow after playing only two games of winter ball. The diagnosis was made by Dr. James Andrews Wednesday, Nov. 6, after Sano had rested for two weeks following the injury. The team is hoping that surgery will not be necessary and anticipates him being ready for spring training.

Catcher

C | Joe Mauer | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy
The Minnesota Twins announced C Joe Mauer will move to first base in 2014.

This may be Mauer's fantasy swan song in 2014 because once he loses catcher eligibility he will be a fringe fantasy player. He doesn't hit for enough power, especially in his cavernous home park, to be an effective fantasy first baseman. He gains a bit of value for next season because playing first base with catcher eligibility will help keep him healthy and allow for him to need fewer days off.

C | Jarrod Saltalamacchia | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Toronto Blue Jays are thought to be interested in free-agent C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Red Sox), but not necessarily for his bat. Team sources indicate if the Blue Jays are to contend, they need players like Saltalamacchia, whose easygoing manner helped stabilize the Red Sox clubhouse and guide it toward the World Series.

C | A.J. Pierzynski | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Contrary to a previous report, the Boston Red Sox have expressed interest in free-agent C A.J. Pierzynski (Rangers), according to a major league source.

C | Carlos Ruiz | free agent | Free Agents
The Boston Red Sox have contacted free-agent C Carlos Ruiz (Phillies) this offseason.

C | Brian McCann | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent C Brian McCann (Braves) has attracted interest from nine teams, including the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers.

C | Wilin Rosario | Colorado Rockies | Free Agents, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Colorado Rockies might move C Wilin Rosario to the outfield if the team signs free-agent C Carlos Ruiz (Phillies).

A move to the outfield would be huge for fantasy owners in keeper leagues, as he could be used in the outfield in 2014 while also retaining his catcher eligibility for at least one more season.

Outfielder

OF | Nelson Cruz | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
Free-agent OF Nelson Cruz (Rangers) rejected the Texas Rangers' qualifying offer.

OF | Matt Murton | Japanese League | Fantasy
P Randy Messenger and OF Matt Murton are close to accepting contract extensions to remain with the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese League, according to a team source. Both players had been rumored to be considering returns to the United States to resume their careers in the major leagues.

OF | Mark Trumbo | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox could show interest in Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Mark Trumbo if they are not able to re-sign free-agent 1B Mike Napoli.

OF | Carlos Beltran | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent OF Carlos Beltran (Cardinals) will reject the one-year qualifying offer he received from the St. Louis Cardinals. Beltran has received interest from six teams and is looking for a three- or four-year deal.

OF | Curtis Granderson | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The New York Mets have expressed preliminary interest in free-agent OF Curtis Granderson (Yankees), according to two people familiar with the team's thinking.

OF | Shin-Soo Choo | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals could be potential landing spots for free-agent OF Shin-Soo Choo (Reds). He had previously been connected to the Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. Agent Scott Boras said he is scheduled to meet with at least six teams at the GM/owners meetings next week in Orlando regarding Choo.

OF | Denard Span | Washington Nationals | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Washington Nationals could be willing to listen to trade offers for OF Denard Span this offseason, according to several officials for other teams. The belief is that this could be related to another potential offseason move, such as pursuing free-agent OF Jacoby Ellsbury (Red Sox).

OF | Carlos Gonzalez | Colorado Rockies | Transaction, Fantasy
It might be a long shot, but FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal wonders if the Colorado Rockies might deal SS Troy Tulowitzki to the St. Louis Cardinals. However, the Rockies are likely to keep Tulowitzki given that his contract will average $18.6 million over the next season years, which is believed to be fairly reasonable. Owner Dick Monfort said that Tulowitzki and OF Carlos Gonzalez are "quite unavailable."The plan is to keep them. Next year, yes. And my plan is to always keep them," Monfort told The Denver Post. "Is that the smartest thing in the world to do? I don't know. But for our fans, I think it's the best thing to do." Gonzalez will average $15.9 million over the next four years, which makes him even more reasonable.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Los Dodgers have a glut of outfielders, and according to rival officials, the Los Angeles Dodgers are more eager to move OF Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier than OF Matt Kemp (ankle), who is coming off ankle surgery. Kemp is owed $128 million over the next six years, Crawford $81.5 million over the next four, and Ethier $69 million over the next four. "None of those contracts can be moved without (the Dodgers) taking on salary," one rival exec said.

OF | Shane Victorino | Boston Red Sox | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox are interested in signing free-agent OF Carlos Beltran (Cardinals), but they view him as a "tough squeeze" onto their roster. The club already has three strong corner outfielders and are facing the potential loss of OF Jacoby Ellsbury in free agency. The Red Sox would prefer not to move OF Shane Victorino to center field. Boston would have to surrender a draft pick in order to sign Beltran, too. According to some sources, the Red Sox have been more aggressive in pursuing Beltran than the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.

SP | Clayton Kershaw | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Dodgers seek long-term extensions for SP Clayton Kershaw and SS Hanley Ramirez, but they likely need to move one of their high-priced outfielders (OFs Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier or Matt Kemp) to make that happen.

SP | Joel Carreno | New York Mets | Transaction,
The New York Mets signed free-agent SP Joel Carreno (Blue Jays) to a minor league deal with a spring training invite Friday, Nov. 8.
