2B | Dustin Pedroia | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia's (thumb) surgery to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb might be more complicated than originally believed. Pedroia underwent an MRI Tuesday, Nov. 5, and a tendon might need to be taken from his wrist and re-attached to his thumb. "I guess because I played with (the injury) the whole year, it's made it a little tougher," Pedroia explained. "If they do the normal surgery, there has to be some good endings (of the ligament) to re-attach it. If there's not, we have to do it a different way." Pedroia said his rehab may be extended a couple of weeks as a result. He expects to be out four to six weeks or six to eight weeks depending on the procedure.

Pedroia's surgery is scheduled for Nov. 12. Expect him to be fine in time for spring training and the regular season in 2014.

Free-agent C Brian McCann's (Braves) interest in signing with the Texas Rangers hasn't changed now that they re-signed C Geovany Soto and announced that they plan on him serving as their primary catcher next season. "He knows they potentially might have a need for somebody to fill that dual role of a big left-handed bat in the lineup as well as somebody to help behind the plate," McCann's agent, BB Abbott said. The Boston Red Sox have not reached out to free-agent C Jarrod Saltalamacchia to see if he would like to re-sign. Saltalamacchia said he's already received interest from other teams. "I'm a little surprised with not more conversation going on just because I thought we had a common idea of where we wanted to be. I put so much time and effort into the team and into the organization and they've done the same for me. But like I said, I may be premature and they might call out of nowhere, or might have already called and I just don't know yet," he said.
