"He needs to trust what he has and what he can do. There is not a need at this level for a guy who has had some success to make major changes. To some extent, everybody tinkers with their swing, but you don't want to get to a point where it becomes a detriment to your development." Moreland is hitting just .182 with a .612 OPS since returning from the disabled list.

Peralta will work out in the outfield in the instructional league, and he could help the team in the playoffs. "I don't know if you want to call it a long shot, a 50-50, I have no idea," manager Jim Leyland said. "Dave will make a decision at some point. He'll go down there, and we'll be getting reports from down there, from the guys that are down there, on how he looks. How he looks in left field, how he's swinging the bat." Ventura is one of the team's top pitching prospects with an electric arm; his fastball can reach the upper 90s on occasion. He has high strikeout upside but might be rough around the edges in his first taste of MLB action. It wouldn't be wise to rely on him this late in a mixed league.
