Detroit Tigers SS Jhonny Peralta has been told by team management that he will not be the starter if the club decides to activate him. If the club decides not to activate him when postseason play looms, the Tigers could designate Peralta for assignment to remove him from the roster.

SS | Andrew Romine | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim INF Andrew Romine elected to hit exclusively from the left side midway through the 2012 season, but he has resumed switch-hitting this season. He hit .327 in the minors in the month of July, and had picked up six hits over his past 17 at-bats with the big club Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Chris Nelson (hamstring) has been making progress, and he might be able to return from the 15-day disabled list as soon as next week. Nelson is fielding ground balls at third base, taking batting practice and going through agility drills.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) was back in the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 11, against the Baltimore Orioles, serving as the designated hitter and working out of the two-hole. Rodriguez swatted his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot, in the top of the sixth inning.

If Mauer keeps experiencing concussion-related symptoms, it'll be likely that he'll be shut down for the rest of the year as a precaution. It's not looking good for him.

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton was named as Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year. The 19-year-old hit .334 with 49 extra base hits and 55 stolen bases at Single-A Fort Myers and Low Single-A Cedar Rapids this year.

Buxton's upside is through the roof and should see major league action at some point next season. A dazzling combination of speed and the ability to hit for average come with him. Keeper leaguers should pounce if they haven't already.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton has regained his form over the past month, and hitting coach Jim Eppard believes more upside remains. "It's been a year-long process," Eppard said Wednesday, Sept. 11. "I know I'm not completely where I want to be with him yet. That consistency isn't at the level that I think that he's (capable) of. In other words, I think there's more in there."

Hamilton entered play Wednesday with a .339 batting average with four homers and 14 walks over the past 29 games. He was awful to start the season, but he has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option in every formats heading down the stretch.

Starting Pitcher

Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez finished off his excellent rookie season against the Atlanta Braves Wednesday, Sept. 11. He finishes the year with a 2.19 ERA, and only three other rookie pitchers to qualify for the ERA title have finished with an ERA under 2.20 since the award started in 1947. Fernandez also finished the year 9-0 at home with a 1.19 ERA, which was by far the best in baseball this year. His opponents' average on his breaking ball this season was just .182.

Keeper leaguers that stashed Fernandez away early were rejoicing all year. Fernandez's value will likely be inflated on draft day next year because of his great performance in his first season. Keep this in mind if you want him on your squad.

I think he's buying into the fact that the little adjustments that he's going to make are going to end up in big results."

He could return for the final week of the season, but at that point, he'd likely be used as a reliever.
