First Baseman

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (quadriceps) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his start Sunday, July 14, against the Texas Rangers. He eventually surrendered a two-out double to Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland, and left shortly thereafter due to tightness in his right quadriceps muscle. Verlander will travel to New York for this week's All-Star festivities, but he will not pitch in the game Tuesday, July 16, since he worked today. However, manager Jim Leyland has Verlander penciled in to start Saturday, July 20.

1B | Justin Morneau | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau and his representatives approached the team this past week, hopeful of discussing a contract extension in advance of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. They were rebuffed by management. "We asked," Morneau said Saturday, July 13. "(The Twins) said they're not going to do anything about an extension before the trade deadline or anything like that. That's not an option." There is speculation that the club could deal Morneau. His contract gives him the right to reject a trade to six teams.

1B | Paul Konerko | Chicago White Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Chicago White Sox 1B Paul Konerko (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham Thursday, July 18. He is expected to remain there through next weekend and could be activated from the disabled list Monday, July 22.

Second Baseman

2B | Logan Forsythe | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres 2B Logan Forsythe (knee) left the game Saturday, July 13, against the San Francisco Giants due to soreness in his right knee. Manager Bud Black doesn't think Forsythe will need a stint on the 15-day disabled list, and he'll have plenty of time off to rest during the upcoming All-Star break. Play resumes for the Padres Friday, July 19, on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals.

2B | Gordon Beckham | Chicago White Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Chicago White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham (quad) suffered a left quad contusion after colliding with OF Casper Wells during the 12th inning of the second game of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, July 13. He remained in the game for the rest of the inning but was replaced on defense in the 13th inning by C Josh Phegley. Beckham was not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 14, with INF Jeff Keppinger playing second base.


SS | Stephen Drew | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Thursday, July 18, with Double-A Portland. The plan is for Drew to play two games before coming off the 15-day disabled list Saturday, July 20.

SS | Yunel Escobar | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays SS Yunel Escobar (hamstring) left the game Sunday, July 14, against the Houston Astros due to a slight strain of his right hamstring, according to manager Joe Maddon.

Third Baseman

The San Diego Padres are inclined to deal 3B Chase Headley at the trading deadline, but it is more likely SP Edinson Volquez and or CL Huston Street will be dealt away.

Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer closed the first half with a six-game hitting streak, posting a .478 average during the impressive run.

Kershaw might move up depending on his use in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16.

He allowed a run on five hits, two walks and struck out four. "The biggest thing was the strength and stamina in this heat with limited cardio work because of the injury," Peavy said. "I got my body through the fatigue and (lack of) strength part of it."
