The team insists he's physically fine despite playing through a torn rotator cuff all of last year. His shoulder could still be playing a part, though, as his power numbers are down again. Espinosa also has a .200 batting average on balls in play, but he's hitting liners only 10.3 percent of the time, the lowest mark in the majors. His home run percentage has dropped from 13 percent in his career to 7.7 percent this year. Espinosa is swinging at more pitches and making contact with pitches outside the zone, but most of all, it looks as though he's lost the strength in his swing. The Nationals still think Espinosa gives them the best option at second base, mainly because of his defense.
