Quarterback

QB | Mark Sanchez | New York Jets | Fantasy
Former NFL RB LaDainian Tomlinson, who played with New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez in 2010 and 2011, does not believe the Jets when they say they're planning to bring in competition for Sanchez at the quarterback position in the offseason. "They said that last year," Tomlinson said. "They brought Tim Tebow in and it wasn't much of a competition because (Tony) Sparano didn't know what to do with Tim Tebow. I just think they're in a situation where they have to stick with Sanchez."

QB | Alex Smith | San Francisco 49ers | Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York said he would like to keep QBs Colin Kaepernick and Alex Smith on the roster next season. "I hope he's with us," York said of Smith. "From a cap standpoint, we have the room to be able to keep him. One quarterback is usually not enough to get you through a season. And to have two guys which the Niners had in Steve (Young) and Joe (Montana) for a long time, there's no reason why you can't have two guys on your team. And I hope we can find a way to make that happen." York added Smith has not yet asked the team to release him.

QB | Geno Smith | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
There is a lot of speculation surrounding the Oakland Raiders potentially interested in selecting West Virginia QB Geno Smith with the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft. However, that seems unlikely as the Raiders have major needs defensively, and the draft has many top-rated defensive players.

QB | Joe Flacco | Baltimore Ravens | Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome assured fans and everyone else that QB Joe Flacco will be a member of the team next season, whether or not a long-term deal is hammered out. "We'll be able to get that thing done," Newsome said Tuesday, Jan. 29. "But one thing we do know, he'll be playing football for us next year. And sometimes that's all you can look forward to is just next year."

QB | Colt McCoy | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Jan. 29, that QB Colt McCoy visited the team's headquarters Monday, Jan. 28, to meet with the coach in person. Chudzinski said he has also spoken to QBs Brandon Weeden and McCoy on the phone.

QB | Aaron Rodgers | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
The Green Bay Packers are likely to address QB Aaron Rodgers' contract situation this offseason despite the fact that Rodgers won't be a free agent until after the 2014 season. Rodgers is underpaid at $9.3 million a year at the moment. With the possibility of Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco signing a large deal this offseason, it'll give Green Bay the incentive to get something done with Rodgers first.

QB | Tim Tebow | New York Jets | Fantasy
Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said it was his idea to trade for Tim Tebow. Tannenbaum said he discussed the idea with owner Woody Johnson and head coach Rex Ryan but it was ultimately his decision.

QB | JaMarcus Russell | Free Agent | Free Agents
The New York Jets have not inquired about QB JaMarcus Russell this offseason.

QB | Mike Glennon | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft, Free Agents, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The New York Jets have every intention to bring in competition at almost every position next season, including at starting quarterback, where QB Mark Sanchez will have plenty of competition. The team's personnel department will likely have their eyes on West Virginia QB Geno Smith, Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib and Virginia Tech QB Logan Thomas in this year's draft. Before general manager Mike Tannenbaum was let go, the team also considered the possibility of bringing in free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders). The team also spent plenty of time with North Carolina State QB Mike Glennon at the Senior Bowl last week. "I think he's champing at the bit," GM John Idzik said of Sanchez. "And he wants to get going with his new coordinator (Marty Mornhinweg). He's all about competing. I got a really good feeling from Mark."

Running Back

RB | Maurice Jones-Drew | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) is determined to bounce back following a disappointing 2012 campaign, which included missing 10 games with a broken foot, according to former NFL RB LaDainian Tomlinson. "MJD is determined to come back from this and be as good as he's ever been. And I think he'll do that," Tomlinson said.

Wide Receiver

WR | Brian Hartline | Free Agent | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline is hopeful of receiving a contract worth $6 million per season, according to a friend of the receiver.

WR | Donald Driver | Green Bay Packers | Free Agents
The Minnesota Vikings are interested in signing Green Bay Packers WR Donald Driver, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. Although there have been reports that Driver may retire, Driver himself has suggested he may want to keep playing. "I think I could go to any team and be either their No. 1 or No. 2 guy and be solid for another three years," Driver said. "The question is, do I want to see myself in another uniform? Will my family want to see that? If nobody wants to see it, at the end of the day, it will still be a tough decision because I've always said I only want to wear that green and gold and nothing else."

WR | Mike Williams | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Free Agents
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have begun contract extension talks with WR Mike Williams.

WR | Greg Jennings | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy

I'm excited for that."

"I feel good, everything is on schedule," Pitta said. "I'm trying to get as healthy as possible for this game. It's something I got to get treatment on. I want to make sure it doesn't get worse. I'll be ready."

Offensive Tackle

OT | Jah Reid | Baltimore Ravens | Injury
Baltimore Ravens OG Jah Reid (toe) is on crutches after recently undergoing surgery to repair the damage suffered to his dislocated toe before the playoffs. "It's a good prognosis, I'll be ready for minicamps definitely," Reid said Tuesday, Jan. 29. "I just started a three-month rehab. I don't know exactly when it's going to be. I'll be fine for next season, of course."

New York Giants DE Osi Umenyiora is likely to leave as a free agent in the offseason.

DL | Kenyon Coleman | Dallas Cowboys | Free Agents
With the Dallas Cowboys moving to a 4-3 defensive scheme next season, impending free-agent DE Kenyon Coleman is not expected to return. He is a 3-4 defensive end with the ability to hold up blockers, but he is not a penetrating type of lineman.

DL | Billy Winn | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit
Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is impressed by what he has seen on film from DL Billy Winn, in particular an interception he generated while rushing the quarterback. "Maybe Billy's inside, maybe Billy's outside, maybe he's dropping (into coverage) because he's so athletic," Horton said.

DL | Jabaal Sheard | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is uncertain where DE Jabaal Sheard will be used in the 3-4 defensive scheme, but he likes what he has seen on tape. Horton was asked if Sheard can play outside linebacker. "I would hope my answer would be, 'Let's not put limits on what players can and cannot do.' Jabaal is a guy that I have seen on film that can rush the quarterback and is athletic," Horton said. "What we are going to do as a coaching staff is put each one of our guys in the best position. He may be a strong safety some time, he can be a linebacker, he can be a (defensive) end."

DL | Jay Ratliff | Dallas Cowboys | Transaction
If the Dallas Cowboys decide to cut Jay Ratliff because of his recent arrest would be a mistake, according to Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPNDallas.com. The only scenario that should see Ratliff get released, Taylor writes, is if the Cowboys find someone in free agency or the draft that can replace Ratliff's skill set.

DL | Chandler Jones | New England Patriots | Injury
New England Patriots DL Chandler Jones (ankle) does not need surgery to repair an ankle injury.

Defensive Tackle

DT | Kawann Short | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
Purdue DT Kawann Short posted three tackles in the Senior Bowl, and was consistently penetrating the backfield. However, some NFL scouts have their concerns about Short despite what appears to be immense talent. "He doesn't play as hard as you would like, not regularly," the scout said. "Now, there in the Senior Bowl, he played his ass off. Why did he play hard? Maybe it goes back to mentality. Are you that guy? You are rolling the dice with this kid but let me tell you, he is talented, real talented. He can play defensive end in a 3-4 and he can play three technique or nose in a 4-3. Not many guys you can make that statement about."

Defensive End

DE | Ezekiel Ansah | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
Brigham Young DE Ezekiel Ansah posted two sacks and a forced fumble in the Senior Bowl, but he still has a lot of work to do. "When I went out there to Mobile I heard all this buzz - (comparisons to New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul) and that kind of stuff," a scout said. "He isn't Pierre-Paul. He is not as shifty. He is not as urgent. He's not as slippery as a rusher. He's more powerful than he is a finesse guy. Pierre-Paul is a finesse guy and a power guy. I like Ansah but I think he is a project."

He said he has not heard anything from the team regarding his future. "Chicago is my home. Whether I play for the Bears or not, that's my home," Urlacher said. "So I want to be there and hopefully we can work something out, but if not I'll go somewhere else." Urlacher said money was not a top priority for him, and give his age and recent injury history, he said he'd be willing to give the Bears a hometown discount.

LB | Chris Gocong | Cleveland Browns | Injury
Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said Tuesday, Jan. 29, that LB Chris Gocong (Achilles') should be able to return for the start of the 2013 season. Gocong suffered a torn Achilles' tendon last summer. "He's on track with his rehab," Chudzinski said. "He's started running and doing some things. As far as a timetable as to when he's going to be ready, it's still a little premature for that, but everything is on target." Chudzinski added that he didn't know if Gocong would play inside or outside in new defensive coordinator Ray Horton's scheme.

LB | Dannell Ellerbe | Baltimore Ravens | Injury
Baltimore Ravens LB Dannell Ellerbe (ankle) fully expects to play in Super Bowl XLVII Sunday, Feb. 3, against the San Francisco 49ers, and had some help Tuesday, Jan. 29. "I got a cortisone shot. Never again, I hate needles," Ellerbe said.

Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is excited about how CB Joe Haden fits into his plans and scheme. CB | Darrelle Revis | New York Jets | Fantasy
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests that the New York Jets may be considering working a trade for San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith and a second-round pick in exchange for CB Darrelle Revis.

"What I see in T.J. is a player who is dynamic in the run game, a player that's going to get better because he's a smart player that will hit," Horton said. "I'm excited for a chance to coach him and grow with him and understand what he does best."

FS | Tom Nelson | Chicago Bears | Transaction

Offensive Coordinator

OC | Greg Roman | San Francisco 49ers | Draft, Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh believes offensive coordinator Greg Roman is changing the way people around the league are thinking about offensive football. Roman has effectively combined aspects of the read-option that QB Colin Kaepernick runs out of the pistol formation without losing the power game with fullbacks and tight ends that the team likes to run. "I think Greg Roman has done a job that is revolutionary in football," Harbaugh said. "I think the way he has mixed the trap, the power, the wham plays, into the pistol offense and into our conventional offense has been revolutionary in many ways."
