Derek Jeter's fantasy baseball wares very much in disrepair

By Nicholas Minnix

The Captain proved doubters wrong following both his career-low .270 average in 2010 and lifetime-worst six home runs in 2011 by batting .316 with 15 round-trippers and nine stolen bases last year. Considering New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter's evaporating fly-ball rate (down to 15.9 percent), though, the homer total was miraculous, and he registered the fewest steal attempts of his 17-year career.

Now, the bad news: A fractured ankle brought Jete's October run to an abrupt end and required surgery. He's expected to heal in time for opening day, but as those who've suffered similar injuries, like Stephen Drew and Scott Sizemore, can attest, full recovery of his ability to perform at the level to which roto owners are accustomed has an entirely different timetable. And Jeter is 38.
