The Detroit Tigers could be interested in trading for Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera. "Several teams are pursuing shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics. If any one of those teams puts together the right package of young starting pitching, it might be able to pry him loose," a former general manager said.

The San Diego Padres signed free-agent SS Luis Ugueto (Royals) to a minor league deal Thursday, Nov. 29.

The Texas Rangers are unsure of the direction they will take with SS Jurickson Profar in 2013. "We may go that way, but we haven't set that in stone," general manager Jon Daniels said. "It's still up in the air. It's a possibility. It's something we've talked a decent amount about. Some of that depends on other things we have going on. We do feel he's capable of doing that." Profar finished his September callup last season 3-for-17 with two RBIs. Texas could look to trade SS Elvis Andrus to make room for Profar, or they could look to move 2B Ian Kinsler into the outfield.

The eight-year deal is worth slightly less than $140 million, but surpasses SP Johan Santana's six-year, $137.5 million deal to make it the largest in franchise history. The deal includes his $16 million salary in 2013 and adds seven years and roughly $122 million to keep him in town through 2020.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the team may go with in-house options at catcher to replace Pittsburgh Pirates C Russell Martin. Cs Francisco Cervelli, Austin Romine, Chris Stewart and Eli Whiteside are the options. Cashman said a replacement in right field for OF Nick Swisher is more important than a catcher at this time.

I would expect things would start moving a little bit now."

Texas has made it clear that they will not wait on Hamilton if they have other options, like pursuing Greinke. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are also pursuing Greinke. If the team fails to re-sign Hamilton, general manager Jon Daniels is comfortable with an outfield consisting of OFs David Murphy, Nelson Cruz, Leonys Martin, Craig Gentry, Julio Borbon and Engel Beltre. 2B Ian Kinsler could also be moved to the outfield if they team wants to involve SS Jurickson Profar more.
