"I'm looking forward to seeing him play and seeing him hit," skipper Charlie Manuel said. "There's an old saying, 'If you can hit, we'll find a place for you.' In today's game, that goes a long way. Milwaukee Brewers OF Corey Hart (foot) will visit with team doctor William Raasch Monday, Sept. 10, to determine how much more time he'll have to miss. Hart's injury was initially believed to be a left ankle injury but now they are saying it involves the bottom of his foot. "It was a weird feeling," Hart said. "It's not my ankle. It's around the arch area. I've had broken ankles and sprained ankles and stuff. This felt like it was burning. I kept trying to go, but it was one of those things that got worse." Hart won't rule out the possibility that he could be dealing with plantar fasciitis. 1B Travis Ishikawa is taking over for Hart at first base Monday.

Texas Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler went 0-for-4 Sunday, Sept. 9, to drop his average to a season-low .263. He also dropped his on-base percentage to .331, tying his lowest mark of the year. "You can get out of rhythm on defense, on offense and on the basepaths. He's a quality baseball player. He'll fight through whatever issues he has." Washington said he has no plans of benching Kinsler or giving him extra time off.

Colorado Rockies head coach Jim Tracy said C Wilin Rosario's defense must improve in order for him to see regular starts at catcher. "It's got to get better. It's got to get a hell of a lot better," Tracy said. C Ramon Hernandez is starting over Rosario Monday, Sept. 10, after Rosario had four passed balls in Game 1 of a doubleheader Sunday, Sept. 9. He has a franchise record with 19 passed balls this year. The Rockies considered sending Rosario down to the minors around midseason to have him work on his defense. Tracy said the team will continue to emphasize to Rosario that he must clean up his defense so that pitchers will be able to trust their breaking pitches.


Outfielder

Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera (wrist) did not play Monday, Sept. 10, against the Minnesota Twins due to a sore right wrist. INF Brent Lillibridge started at shortstop in his place and hit eighth. Cabrera started at designated hitter Sunday but left in the seventh inning because of the same soreness. The injury doesn't appear to be serious, Cleveland manager Manny Acta said, but the club will approach the situation cautiously.

Chicago Cubs OF Brett Jackson (knee), who has been out since Friday, Sept. 7, after he bruised his right knee crashing into the outfield wall in Pittsburgh, could be back in the Cubs' lineup as early as Tuesday, Sept. 11. Manager Dale Sveum said the team would monitor how Jackson swung the bat before the team's Sept. 10 game.

"And we certainly haven't given up on what we know Mark can do, and we want to give Mark an opportunity to contribute and get back to where he can be, and balance that with what Vernon's been able to bring. Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the organization is considering taking SP Daisuke Matsuzaka out of the rotation and replacing him with RP Alfredo Aceves. Matsuzaka gave up five runs against the Toronto Blue Jays in his last start; it was the third time in his last four starts that the righthander was unable to complete four innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (hip), who was supposed to pitch over the weekend, had his next start pushed back to Tuesday, Sept. 11, as a result of a hip injury. Kershaw underwent an MRI on Saturday, Sept. 8, that revealed inflammation, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. He had a cortisone shot administered later in the day. The injury is not believed to be serious, Mattingly said.

Oakland Athletics SP Dallas Braden (shoulder) does not have a full tear in his left rotator cuff, which means it may not take as long for him to recover from the operation. Braden said his shoulder feels great after the most recent procedure, performed in New York by Dr. David Altchek, and Braden hopes he can pitch by the All-Star break next year.

San Diego Padres SP Jason Marquis (wrist) has thrown four bullpen sessions, even with a cast on his left hand. He remains intent on pitching again this season. He was analyzed by the doctor and his shoulder might be a little fatigued."
